I spent the weekend in Austin with Texas friends. Great time at the game.

Throughout the weekend I asked fans the "conference question".

Everyone said they would rather go independent. Do not care for the Big 12 e

They also don't understand the concept of conference pride. thought it was ridiculous that I was rooting for SEC teams not named Auburn. In their mind they have already left and are just waiting for the time when it is official.

I used to think that it would fun to have them in the SEc Austin is a great town. But This weekend changed all of that. That is not a I hate Texas attitude, I just think their personality is not a good fit. A lot of Texas fans are assholes.

It's ridiculous. I don't root for my rivals, in any sport.

Yeah, that's pretty stupid. I'd never root for someone in my team's conference

The Big 12 has been at death's door for a little while now, but im not a fan of going independent. I just don't think it's feasible in this day and age

I don't give much sympathy out to Texas here, re: their conference wishes, but only SEC weirdos have anything resembling conference pride.

F wanting other SEC teams to have super nice things JUST because they are SEC.

You might as well be chanting Bama or something.

Because any other program whose fans chant SEC are actually chanting "Bama!"

I want the SEC to do well in non-conference.

It helps my team look good when we win the natty again.

Your regular foes being good helps your team's SoS.

Conference pride is idiotic. I didn't attend any of the other SEC schools. I attended LSU.

Outside of splitting television revenues and playing each other most years, I have as much of a connection to Furman as I do Kentucky.

With that said, I expect the Big 12 to cease to exist as we know as soon as its GOR expires.

Expansion is a short term money grab.

I was all about conference pride earlier this century when there was some argument the conference was getting shafted, and therefore I needed rivals to do good so LSU would get the benefit of the doubt when it needed it (2007 anyone?).

Now that is in the past I'm not going out of my way to pull for anyone.

If Bama were to completely shite the bed and go 3-9, and LSU goes 12-1, do you think that we'd get left out of the playoff? Not a chance.

There are plenty of times that I will root for an SEC team, but it has nothing to do with conference pride.
