Anybody know the reasoning behind that?

It was great publicity, and it forced recruiting rivals to waste resources on guys that were never going to go those respective schools

I understand that and agree with you. But, considering Herman is moving a mere two hours away and is now at the premier school, I assumed he would be doing better (at least with the in-state kids)

He's at a new job, where it is relative to his old, lesser program is irrelevant. He's had basically 6 weeks to recruit kids to a new school. The old coach left a small class, i don't think they had any decommits, certainly not en masse. Also this class hasn't signed, so judge him once it is over and more telling will be next year. If he bombs in 2018, there will be concern. Until then we don't know how he will do.

And Oregon continues its slide behind Texas.

And Nebraska will continue to wander in the desert it looks like.

They are next to Texas and Miss St. and behind Arizona which went 1-8 in conference.

It's not nonsense, it is fact. Check ESPN rankings. The guy has been a head coach for two years. In his second year, his team which had more talent than anyone in the conference wound up in sixth place. THAT, on top of losing to SMU.

The guy I was responding to seems to think that since the "dude-kisser" has a grill and listens to rap music he will be successful in recruiting next year. I think that if he doesn't perform better in his third than he did in his second year as a HC, it couldn't be further from the truth.

No, there is no 6th in the conference officially, there are 2 divisions UH finished in 3rd in theirs. You keep saying 6th in the AAC using your own made up tie breaker of head to head with Memphis because it sounds worse. It is disingenuous at best. It also meaningless. He finished 9-3 this year, 13-1 the year before. Where they ranked in the conference overall doesn't matter as much as the overall record since they didn't win it

Using your ranking standards, SMU finished 8th in the AAC. How is that this disqualifying loss? Its a bad loss, all coaches have them, nothing more. That you keep harping on this one game proves, you are either someone with an irrational grudge or someone that really doesn't know anything about football. Or really more likely both.

You are entitled to your opinion and maybe he won't recruit well at Texas. But this I think shows, you have a personal grudge and don't know much about football. For a first year coach, his overall record isn't as important in recruiting. We will see over the spring and summer recruiting is going for him at Texas, that is when the really ground work is done for the class. If they do better than expected, it could help, but most of the class typically is not swayed one way or the other. Where they ranking on NSD 2018 will tell us how he does.

Not to mention Oliver's brother was already on the UH team. Then Herman hired his high school coach.

Those two things won't be available for every five star player.

Officially? He finished 4th in his division and 6th place overall in the entire conference.

Temple 7-1
South Florida 7-1
Navy 7-1
Tulsa 6-2
Memphis 5-3
Houston 5-3

This is the way it is listed on ESPN. Memphis beat Houston so they are 3rd in the division and Houston is 4th.

May be a trend, but he hasn't coached long enough to know. He did a hell of a job with the previous staff's players.

They were 5-3 in the AAC. 24/7 has them as the most talented team in the conference. One of their three losses was 38-16 to SMU.

Yes, losing to SMU is a BAD loss for Herman. Making it worse is Herman is this supposed offensive guru. Well, the guru was only able to put up 303 total yards of offense in the 38-16 loss to a team they were favored to beat by 23 points. The last time UH's offense scored in the game was in the 3rd qtr with over 22 minutes remaining in the game.

As you are entitled to yours. I don't have a grudge. I am not making anything up. It is all fact. I am just glad he did not get the LSU job. I will also point out to others that think he is some kind of savior why I am glad he is at Texas and not in BR.

It's not like Houston had been in the dumps for decades before he took over. Both Briles and Sumlin were very successful at Houston. Sumlin actually went 13-1 the year A&M hired him. The coach they fired before Herman went 8-5 and 7-5 his two seasons. Herman's third year would have possibly been the same or worse as the fired guy.

but not every LSU fan. there are many of us that are glad he didn't. while he may have worked out i think he was a far bigger risk of bombing than who we picked. but as they say, only time will tell.

People did the same thing with Harbaugh. Texas had like 5 commits before Herman got there, he's done a great job in the tme he's had.

Herman was a bigger risk of bombing at LSU than Orgeron? Now that is an optimistic LSU fan perspective.

He's received commitments from 9 players since being hired, 7 of which are 3*'s that probably never dreamed they be getting an offer from UTx. The other 2 are good prospects but he's going to need way more than that especially on the defensive side of the ball.

Rhule had 1 commit when he took over a month ago. He has 19 now with a few that are 4 star guys. With the situation he inherited the guy must be one hell of a salesman to pull in what he has in that short time. He also won the AAC this year and was 10-2 each of his last 2 seasons at Temple. He's looking more and more like a very good hire each day.

Herman will be another Strong, 3 years and out. We continue to operate as if we have a tiny budget, and are shopping for coaches in the bargain basement. All of this $, all of these resources, great town, solid academic school, and things couldn't be more of a mess. We are looking at other 2* kids to round out the class. It is embarrassing.
