He's basically trying to get an alliance together with other Texas high schools, players and major college coaches to boycott IMG type academies. Personally, I think he's wasting his time. He mentions the "me-first" teenage free agent mentality of the players, but that is only getting worse as more and more attention is paid to these players and the way they announce.

Didn't read but he is probably trying to recruit to his school

He probably is wasting his time, I don't think a ton of kids from here leave for those schools though. At least you certainly don't hear about many top kids in Texas leaving for IMG though I'm sure they're getting recruited by them

It all just feels kind of dirty.

One could argue Coach Smith is displaying a "me-first" mentality by trying to stop kids from going to where they feel is best for them.

Or he's had kids get poached by IMG.

Coach Smith is not losing any players to IMG

Seems like one of those problems that really isn't a problem.

Doesn't IMG cost 50K or something?

I looked at their roster from last year and they have two TX kids on their roster, one from Fredericksburg and one from Quinlan. I've never heard of either of those high schools producing shite D1 wise

I feel like kids in TX are much more likely to move to Katy, Allen, Lake Travis, Converse etc over moving all the way to Florida. There's a powerhouse HS football program in every major metro.

Kids should go where ever they want to go. If they are good enough to play at IMG and they want to leave their friends and families to be there then so be it.

Only for those that can pay it. I highly doubt the average 4 or 5* player that goes there has to pay a dime.

The funny thing is the majority of the dominant HS teams in Texas seldom have the type of player that would go play for IMG.

North Shore, DeSoto, Skyline are a few that come to mind that might suffer from IMG.

For the most part you are correct. However, the IMG QB and WR for next season (Kellen Mond and Jhamon Ausbon) are both Baylor commitments from Texas. I think this will greatly help these two transition to the college game.

I know some coaches in the South Houston area that have been talking about this for a while. It's a hot topic during meetings.

They are really just trying to get teams to boycott playing them.

Is having a handful of athletes from all around the country going to schools like IMG academy really a HUGE problem.

Well they can't do anything. That is why they are trying to get college coaches on board. The line of thinking is, if coaches don't recruit from there, they won't keep flocking there. But there is no way coaches will collectively stop recruiting there as long as its a one stop shop for top recruits.
