Has any team in any sport benefited as much from an injury as the saints have benefited from Drew Brees' 2005 shoulder injury? If not for that injury, it is unlikely the saints would have a franchise qb. When I posed this question to my buddy, he mentioned the Yankees benefiting from Wally Pipp's injury. However, doing some research, I found out that Gehrig got the start due to a benching, not an injury.

So I asked you what other sports injuries have greatly benefited a team?

Good call. Definitely cleared the way for brady.

True. But I was thinking more in the context of a whole season or several season than just one game. And I would say that the phantom pass interference penalty had more to do with OSU winning than mcgahee being injured.

Josh Booty's rib injury getting Rohan Davey behind center.

He was doing nothing up to that point in the game.

You're talking about just that half, right?

I would say our goalline stand did. Or our 4th and 11 OT conversion. Or our DL kicking the crap out of Dorsey all night. Not a call that should have never had to have been made, since the game shouldn't have gone to OT, without the U getting help from the refs, or a player being injured that wasn't doing anything great that game.

Yeah, he was. But just because he got hurt, there was no way to know how the outcome of the game would change. If he was dominating us, OK, but we were keeping him in check throughout the night.

We just don't know. He was obviously better than Payton, but who knows what would have happened if he would have stayed in. It's likely nothing really changes, just based on the way the game had gone for him up to that point.

The Steelers. Tommy Gun would have still been QB for a couple more years and they dont get 2 SB's.
