Unnecessary. Cal and Texas have more pull than UL. If Texas decided they wanted to be referred to as the Republic of Texas' Longhorns, it would take 1 request to ESPN. ESPN has very few fricks to give for sunbelt schools. If you want the job done, it takes persistence.

If someone would/could answer the question of why ULL should be considered more important/better than ULM, then I'd jump on board the UL train. I like ULL. I've got family that went there, an uncle who taught there, and the campus is nice. I've only seen ULM briefly, but have no real knowledge of the school.

if ESPN refers to them as UL, everyone outside the state/Sun Belt is going to think Louisville is playing on tv

FFS. It has nothing to do with this. "Louisiana" is the way athletics wants to market itself. Not ULL, not Louisiana-Lafayette. Nothing has every stood in the way of ULM pushing themselves as such. They've shown no interest. ULM is the route they chose and their logo is even based around ULM. Different strokes for different folks.

I think the reality of the situation is that most Cajun fans give 2 shits about what we are called. We say UL because everyone here knows wtf we're talking about when we say it, and ULL does not phonetically "flow" like ULM does.
I do enjoy these threads though cause rustling jimmies on the Internet is always a good time.

No. They won't. Louisville played on ESPN last week and they weren't referred to as UL once. The Cajuns wouldn't be referred to as UL either. "Louisiana" is what they're after.

If you're just going to be disingenuous then why should anyone bother discussing this with you?
First of all, there was in fact a heated debate at the time that USL became ULL. They wanted to be UL at that time, but NLU objected, for good reason. The ULL/ULM name change was a compromise, and now UL wants to undo that compromise, pure and simple.

This is what's so stupid about it. They are trying to make a "national" name, by confusing everyone outside the state of Louisiana. It's ill-conceived, which is why they are ridiculed here.

Oh yeah I'm sure putting UL is gonna confuse the frick out of the whole nation, especially considering how often everyone refers to Louisville as UL right? Right? Not really. Cause no one ever calls Louisville UL. They were the number 1 basketball team in the nation last year and I never once heard them called UL.
