Would this be a legit way to cut down on 4hr games without losing the feel of a college games? Inside 2 minutes of 2nd and 4th quarter the clock can stop for chains. But all other times the clock keeps rolling?

That and replays should be the same way with Coaches challenged in between

Why would I want to spend less time watching my team play? Why not less commercials and no 45 minute halftime shows instead. I don't think you thought this one through.

i like the replays being both coach and booth initiated.

they need to do away with the targeting crap that slows the game down when you have the fricking booth buzz in to look at a play that happened 5 mins ago.

Also replays should be done during the commercial break

Yeah, this is just common sense.

then if you have a replay during the drive take one less commercial or something after a score or no commercial after change of possession

They changed the rule several years back so that the clock restarts once the chains are set, except inside the final 2 minutes.

Previously the game clock did not restart until the next snap

No commercial after a punt; only after a score.

Meh, the NFL timing rules allow teams to average 64 plays per game. CFB takes an hour longer it seems but only gets in an extra 8 plays per game.

I think a 4 or 5 minute threshold in each half would be more appropriate for this timing change. I also wouldn't mind a 12-15 minute halftime instead of the 20 minutes they have in college.

It'll just mean more commercials.

Ban consecutive timeouts.

Example- UGA calls a TO with 2 seconds before half. Vandy then calls 2 timeouts to freeze the kicker.

3 timeouts without a play taking place.

This for sure. Also, when a guy gets injured, they wait until he's up and heading back to the sidelines before taking a commercial break. CBS is the worst at this. Drives me crazy.

the entire reason games on CBS suck is b/c they are NFL length.

normal games on ESPN and FS1 go much faster.

What the hell are you talking about? I regularly watch both NFL and college, and I'm trying to remember the last time a college game ended before a NFL game.

The thing is even if you make some rule changes to speed it up which would help some, it won't matter if CBS and whatnot continue to pump commercials like crazy.

The pros have full clock stoppages in the last five minutes of each half when the play goes out of bounds.

College only does that in the last 2 minutes.

Both college and pro resume the clock after the ball is set otherwise after out of bounds plays.
