St. Louis tried trading running back Steven Jackson to the Packers last year for a seventh-round draft choice, but Thompson didn't want to assume his contract.

First, Jackson is worth more than a 7th round pick.

Second, why the frick did the Packers reject that?

Also, I think this solidifies Ted Thompson's spot as worst GM in the league and maybe in the history of the NFL.

im not too big on nfl salary shite but even if they really didnt want the contract, couldnt they have taken the deal and dealt him to someone who could take the contract for better shite than a 7th rounder?

Lacy hasn't played a game yet. Heck, they should've pulled that deal even if they got Lacy.

well if the Rams couldn't even get a 7th rounder for him, why do you think the Packers could?

boxrumble.....it has nothing to do with sjax being better than lacy, it has to do with how valuable cap space is in the NFL and how running backs can be found almost anywhere. How many undrafted or late round guys end up starring every year. Hell look at Arian Foster.

you don't blow that much cap space on a running back whose 30 and has steven jacksons mileage. Lacy is younger and cheaper. Let me give you an analogy....Do you wanna bang a girl after she's been run through by a big black guy(NFL defenses) for 10 years? Eddie lacy is fresh puss

who says the cute chick is fresh puss? she could be beaten up too.

Eddie Lacy got banged up by SEC defenses for a while, but he still has 10 years of less smashing upon his body and when you combine that with the cheaper contract you have a better deal.

Would've been a short term rental anyways.

rb's are worth crap, especially in an offense like GB. I could see someone, like say the saints, waste a high pick on a rb they would rarely use.

I agree running backs are crap, but you need a guy who can punch it in inside the 5. I remember the lions last year lost one game where they had 4 downs inside the 3 yard line late in the 4th and had no running back so stafford threw 4 straight incompletions and lost the game. I think it was vs the bears or GB

Lacy will have to watch his weight; he was an ill-defined 238 this spring. He needs work in every phase of the passing game, too.

It really has more to do with the offensive line than the running back. Look at the old denver teams, everyone thought terrell davis was a god....then olandis gary put up huge numbers....then mike anderson did it....then clinton portis did it. Certain systems are made for running backs, the zone blocking scheme is one of them. Shanahan leaves denver and takes that system and voila look at alfred morris, he looked like walter payton in his rookie season.

Jackson was one season removed from averaging 3.8ypc when St. Louis made the trade offer.

Or you could give a non-racist analogy.
