He got tied up in the Edwin Edwards corruption case in Louisiana, which dealt with gambling. That got the NFL to make him relinquish control to his sister and BIL.
Even a hint of problem involving gambling is enough for the NFL to come after you, at least provided you aren't part of the Rooney family.
