A lot of people seem to think that Sterling will somehow use the lawsuit to depose other owners and force then to admit that they've said racist things in the past. I was merely pointing out that that won't happen.
PIs are obviously another matter

Unless he has actual proof ie taped conversations, the general public nor the sponsors will care what the owners have done.
Remember how Tim Donaghy was supposed to take down the NBA? Same thing will happen to Sterling, he will be an afterthought once the regular season starts back up again.

In order for Sterling to make the argument that he's being treated unfairly he will have to
A) have his PIs find other owners making statements and released those statements
B) show that the public outrage was equal or greater than his (including sponsors threatening to leave)
C) show that the commissioner and NBA gave a lighter punishment to the other owner.
And even if he does all that a court could easily just defer to the NBA Constitution which gives the commissioner great discretion in deciding punishment. Even if he finds something Sterling is still going to lose

This isn't about the money to Sterling so the NBA trying to settle this out of court would be useless.

Unless the owners suddenly decide that they are all in the same boat, and get the current commissioner to change his ways or get a new commissioner that will suddenly forgive.
I mean the whole thing is rediculous.

The only thing the commissioner has done is levy a $2 million dollar fine. Any forced sale of a team comes down to a vote of the owners.

If he outs more racist owners should they be forced to sell too?
Sure. I doubt any of the rest of the owners were senile enough to get caught on tape though.

Right, his comments were not bound by the rules of discovery, why should anything else be. They might not help him win his lawsuit, but he might pull some folks down with him.
I can't tell you I would be doing the same thing if I were in his shoes, but I commend a guy for going down swinging..I also don't think he is as senile as he is made out to be.

Yeah he had nothing to do with the vote right?

I don't think you understand. The point being made is that Sterling cannot use legal discovery to uncover dirt on other owners because it is completely irrelevant. The fact that other owners may have said things in the past but those statements are not had an adverse impact on the league. That's the crux of the issue.
If Sterling's PI's discover information involving other owners that damages the NBA, will their ownership rights be in jeopardy as well?
You keep saying that if the other owners said things in the past, it isn't an issue because they didn't damage the league. Well, they didn't damage the league's image because no one knows about them.
What happens if they become known?
And this doesn't involve the courts. It involves public opinion.
In the end, I like this idea by sterling. It's interesting.

Started a thread saying I was team sterling from day one.
Everyone flipped out and my thread was immediately anchored.
Suck it. Sterling is gonna burn it all down. Shouldn't have fricked with the old man.

And Sterling is gonna need some real damning accusations with a smoking gun if he wants to get public opinion on his side.

Hmmmm, I'd say the contract and franchise agreement signed by all NBA owners. It isn't a court of law. Frankly, the owners can do pretty much whatever the frick they want in this case.
The "team Sterling" fools in this thread are . . . well, fools who know exactly dick about how the NBA and the law works. Some of you actually believe that if they find some random remarks made by other owners that it's going to bring down the NBA or help Sterling keep his team? No court is going to intervene in this matter because of that. Jesus.
And really, who the frick would defend that sorry sack of shite. He's been an a-hole long, long before this incident.

It's the fricking owners who will make any decision. You honestly think they're going to allow themselves be blackmailed by that old fool? What the frick are you guys smoking?
