Statistically, Cam is nowhere near the MVP

He's 26th in Pass yd/gm. 8th in QB rating. He is first in rush yd/gm and TD for QB's, but even if you add his rushing yards to his passing total, he'd be seventh behind guys like Bortles & Matt Ryan.

So is his MVP status solely on the undefeated record? I'd give his 3rd ranked defense more credit than him for the record.

I'm really not trying to hate, I was just surprised, as I thought Cam was much higher in the stats with the MVP talk.

Depends on your definition of MVP. Is this truly an MVP or more of a player with the best stats on a decent team?

This is why stats are stupid. If you think Bortles and Ryan are having a better year than Cam you're just silly.

You ever think Cam has less passing yards because his team is ahead and doesn't need to throw as much?

I dislike Cam as much as anyone who has disliked him because he's an annoying douchebag, but if the vote were right now and you can't see that he is the MVP then you probably don't deserve to critique players.

Matt Ryan.

Yeah because he is having an MVP type season and all.

I dont care one way or the other but to compare Cam's season to guys like Matt Ryan is just dumb.

Panthers would still win the division with Derek Anderson.

You sound a little salty.

so you're saying he's not very valuable to his team because the rest of it is good enough without him?

he must be the most valuable player then...

They wouldn't be undefeated, but they could definitely win the division with Derek Anderson under center. Top 5 defense, well-coached, opportunistic, etc.

Prove me wrong.

I would probably argue Brady over Cam for MVP right now.

I will agree that Cam has it much easier, because that defense sure is salty.

But, Brady has almost always had a solid to great defense at New England, so its hard to hold that against a player.

Also, I can't tell you how many incredible passes Cam has had that have been dropped, namely by Gin.

Lol idk why I'm even wasting my time responding to this but this is so stupid. Other quarterbacks get garbage time passing yards cause they suck all game and are losing in the fourth. Cam takes care of business and doesn't need 200 yards of trash yards at the end of the game because his team is down 17. Just take yesterday for example Cam was up 28-0 at halftime so he barely had to do anything in the second half. Matt Ryan and Cam had almost the same amount of yards yesterday but they were under a bit different circumstances.

This isn't the (current) Heisman trophy, where you give it to the player with the best stats on a team having a good year.

The MVP is -- or should be -- for the player of most value to his team. If that's Cam, or a linebacker on a team that's 4-12, so be it.

I think you are putting way too much faith into Derek Anderson's ability and downplaying Cam Newton's contribution to this team.

Part of what makes Carolina's defense great is that Carolina runs the ball well (which is partially because of Cam) and They don't make many mistakes, forcing teams into longer fields. Carolina's receivers suck mind you. A non mobile threat at QB with these receivers would be a disaster waiting to happen.
