I'm not that conservative and I don't see how politics play into any of this. They just remind me of the face guy at Alabama, funny at first but now it's just not. I don't hate them or anything it's just not as funny as it once was.

So, the fact that they're doing such acts while also making of their own student body comes off to you as "smug and smarmy?"
So be it. They're the most politically-incorrect band in the country and no group, not even their own peers at the school, are off limits to be the butt of their halftime joke. To be so stiff doesn't damn you socially or intellectually. I'd love for you to point where I said that. In fact, it simply makes you stiff, tied too closely to tradition to appreciate something different and ironic created to be offensive in an environment seemingly built to eliminate such expression.

Possibly. But not in my case. Just because I disagree with you on what is and isn't in good taste and respectful, dosent mean I am biased about the application. I would find both performances poor.
And am I personally offended? Nope, not at all. I have no connection to Iowa or California for that matter. Yet, when the band's goal is to be offensive, it is humorous that you are surprised some find them offensive.

I don't find it humorous, per se. I simply see it as a completion of the band's intended goal and I'm defending it. If you've ever been out to Palo Alto, you'd quickly realize how outside of the toe-the-line act the band is from the rest of the student body. It is VERY liberal around the university and I applaud the band's ability to carry a vibe of sarcasm and irony in the face of that staunch political attitude.

Their halftime show against USC when they paid tribute to one of USC's most distinguished alumnus - "Girls Gone Wild" founder Joe Francis - was fricking epic.
