Big Noon Kickoff is just a FAR superior product...it doesn't matter who they bring in.

I like the early morning NFL ESPN shows on Sunday that go to a dozen reporters round robin that are in various stadiums LIVE early for a quick 90 second insight on what they have heard from staff while being on the ground/weather conditions.

I wish they could do that, but there are only 32 teams in the NFL and they aren’t going to discuss Thursday, Sunday Night, or MNF. Unfortunately there are just too many teams to do a representative version of this in college football.

SEC network could do this and typically do, and I now think that’s a huge reason I enjoy it more than gameday.

Wait until they “fix it” by bringing in a member of the biological female gender. Don’t believe me, look how they have been testing that on the SEC network. Roman Harper would be good to move up, so would Tebow, but I if they don’t go female they find some Ex-Texas high profile player. Ricky Williams has been on LHN getting groomed for quite sometime

Corso called the Wazzu/Oregon St game the "nobody watches us bowl". The Wazzu coach and their fans misheard it because you can barely understand Corso as "nobody wants us" so he took a shot at Corso. It kinda died down then the next week they're showing the Wazzu flag and McAfee's says he sick of wasting time on the show with Washington St., later off the show he told Washington St to frick off.

quote:

We were showing this flag when they were 1-11 in 2009? How about 2-10 in 2010? You were? That's wild," McAfee said. "So when they sucked, you were showing it every single week on the biggest college football show?"

The Wazzu flag is a Gameday tradition and him blowing it off is when people started saying he doesn't work on the show.

You have that backwards, FWIW. Corso said "Nobody wants us bowl" and the coach heard it as "Nobody watches bowl."

I only know that because I looked it up this morning and read about it because I also had no idea what that was referencing.

Here's an article detailing it.

quote:

That’s when beloved ‘GameDay’ analyst Lee Corso described the matchup as the “No one wants us bowl.” But Dickert heard it wrong — he thought Corso called it the “No one watches bowl.” (There’a big difference, because the former is true and the latter is false.)

After an emotional victory in an emotional season that followed a catastrophic summer, Dickert used his post-game platform to criticize Corso.

Soon after the incident, Dickert and Corso spoke and patched things up. But on social media, Leaf went back and forth with Herbstreit over the ‘GameDay’ treatment of his alma mater.

That led to McAfee going after the Cougars on the ensuing ‘GameDay’ broadcast.

“Like, shut up! Washington State, about sick of you!” he bellowed. “Waste of time on this show…”

I was shocked they allowed him and his crew to curse on his ESPN tv show. one of the guy kept saying frick, like he was an infant who heard it for the 1st time.

Have they allowed anyone else to curse like that on their show, on espn network.

not just blowing it off, being completely ignorant about it in general. It's almost hard to even fathom how you could be involved with gameday at any level, much less be a host, and not know about the WSU flag. I'm not talkign abotu knowing the history or its first appearance or who started it or anythign in the weeds like that, just the mere fact that it's a thing period. When that whole thing went down it was crystal clear obvious that he had no idea it was "a thing". It's just astounding that he could be so oblivious. It'd be like being a football coach and not knowing that you are given timeouts and are allowed to use them. Like it's truly a basic, fundamental element of the gig that anyone with even a cursory knowledge of it would know.

It needs to go down to no more than an hour and shed 5 or 6 people from the cast, along with a new host. It's unwatchable now.

I’m amazed that anyone can watch this shite for three hours, and McAfee has nothing to do with that. Yeah, he’s too much over the top, but Gameday jumped the shark about ten years ago.

but my question is how exactly do you fix the show. Other than needing to go back to 2 hours the show has still been feeling stale the past few years. Does Corso finally retiring make it that much better?

Also, people acting like Pollack leaving was a death blow for Gameday is hilarious. Pollack sucks.

You can't fix the show because when it started you didn't have the entire internet at your fingers. If I want to know thoughts on an OSU game, there are 4-5 podcasts and multiple recruiting websites who cover every single aspect of the game. They know the players and coaches personally so their information is going to oftentimes be better than the national people.

You can improve it again by cutting it to 60-90 minutes, getting rid of half the feel good stories, and talking football with coaches/players before the biggest 10ish games of the week.

The guest pick segment is still what I think people would tune in for (Corso is still a big draw there), so you can keep that as the last 15 minutes. 45-75 minutes of actual football talk

Replace everyone but Herbstreit with a better crew. Rece Davis sucks, Desmond just giggles, and McAfee is an attention whoring douche bag. Corso was great, but this is clearly his last year and needs to be.

I want Fowler back, then find a good color person to replace Corso that doesn't scream for attention, shave their arms, and wear gold chains with wife beaters under their sports coat.

Also, as you said, shorten the show. And also stop the kids with cancer pieces.

You know who ESPN ought to get for Gameday? Josh Pate. I dunno what sort of deal he has with CBS Sports, but it seems to me they could come up with the dough to land him.

I really like Josh Pate but not sure what kind of role he’d play on gameday

I don't remember McAfee being this insufferable when he was doing stuff with barstool.

I think he just leaned too far into his shtick

That was the end of GameDay for me TBH. Corso had already apologized and put it to bed then PM comes in spitting fire and showed his arse big time.

For him to not understand why Wazzu fans would be sensitive to the Corso jab when TV networks were 100% behind their conference's destruction was an massive lack of self awareness. Then for him to keep piling on not even having learned the history behind the Wazzu flag always being at GameDay going on two decades and acting like ESPN was simply doing them a favor having the flag out was just cherry on top of his uselessness to the show.
