I've never met anyone who was really good at golf that wasn't at least fairly athletic, some of the best golfers I know are also the best athletes

It's more complicated than just a fat old guy swinging at a stationary ball

Exactly. Professional golfers are jacked the majority of the time. Tiger Woods is massive.

I preferred to post a pic of a true non-sport

Since when did we get to the point as a country of classifying things as they are instead of what they seem? Golf is golf it's damn hard to master but fun as hell to play. Go out and shoot 5 under a pebble beach. See if you can. Yea it's not elevated heart rate from running or jumping but it takes immense concentration. And until you get a caddy carrying that bag got heavy

Under his definition, cheerleading and dance are definitely sports.

sport, to me, should be defined as a competition involving more than 1 individual (or teams of individuals)

Golf: Check

Physical Activity: Check (Walk the course and carry your bags, swing a club, and precision putting)

While I would classify golf as a "game", I don't think the definition is cut and dry. Chess/billiards/etc would also be games.

Where does things like field sports in track fall? Shot putt, discus, javelin, etc. Individual activities competing against other individuals (like running) involving only short momentary exertions of energy.

Golf is very much a sport. I agree with this definition:

requires physical exertion and coordination, and is recognized as a sport by sporting goods companies, athletic associations, fans, the media, and more. They point to golf's inclusion in the Olympics starting in 2016 as further evidence of its qualification as a sport.

In summary, the OP really sucks at golf.

what a shitty definition.

To me, a sport is an activity (and use common sense please, monopoly doesn't count) where the opponents are directly attempting to hinder you from succeeding. Football, baseball, basketball, tennis, etc etc see your opponents directly trying to not let you win.

Golf, bowling, cheerleading, etc each participant essentially just does the best that they can, then you compare scores at the end. I don't look at those as sports. To me it has absolutely nothing to do with how much physical exertion you're putting forth.

Nope. Need to have a defense for it to be a sport. Otherwise, it's a competition or game.
