When you see blow out scores like this in college sports it is usually 1 of 4 factors:

1 - academic problems or fraud that impacts the entire team

2 - illness such as strep or stomach virus or food poisoning

3 - player revolt against the coaching staff

4 - winning team had a team wide career night while losing team had a career off night

oddly enough, most times food poisoning is the culprit

If his only goal is to be back home, sure...

He didn't go to ULM (was an assistant there though), it's pretty bad program apparently, and both conferences are D1. In the last 3 years, the Southland and Sunbelt have sent the same number of teams to the NCAA Tournament twice, and the Southland sent more teams than the Sunbelt once.

With the exception of ULL and now Coastal Carolina, the two conferences are pretty equal currently. RPI wise, the Sunbelt was 10, the Southland 12 last year. Both conferences had two teams in the top 64, both had 5 in the Top 100.

All that said, yeah, he could go. I don't think he stands to gain much though, and he has a hell of a recruiting ground right there in Lake Charles.

How long does it take to make a bad program versus a bad team? I ask because with Smoke and Shake, the program was very solid. Routinely made a regional and would win a game or two in said regional. Now, not so much.

Justin Hill, former LSU pitcher and current McNeese St. head coach, has that program headed in the right direction.

ULM should hire him today.

The SLC will be fun this year. There is a ton of fire power, and it looks like there will be 5-6 teams that are solid.

Well apparently no one good got in anyway, because they had 12 runs before the 15 spot in the 5th.

South Alabama beat EIU 32-0 in the weekend series last weekend. Total of 3 grand slams in one day.
