So why doesn't the NFL have a Canadian franchise?

Every other pro league has them it seems. Obviously they have Canadian style football, but does Toronto or Montreal maybe get a team eventually? Serious question.

Buffalo played some games in Toronto.

They'll put a team in London first, I'd imagine.

Seems more practical to move into Canadia before London.

Because it couldn't co-exist with the CFL.

Then they'd have to put a team or two in Mexico.

I'm sure it's on their minds anyway. London. Mexico. Canada. Then world!

Good question. The CFL was founded in 1958. The motto is "This is our league".

Probably wanted to do their own thing.

Seattle Seahawks (Vancouver)
Buffalo Bills (Toronto)

Calgary/Edmonton and Montreal are ripe for expansion though.

I too am surprised that Goodell seems so focused on London but yet seems partial to saving a negligible small market like Buffalo instead of truly pursuing Toronto.

I think the main impediment is that Toronto doesn't seem willing to build a brand new stadium in order to get the team. I think the NFL would rather keep the Bills in Buffalo (at least for the time being) then move them to the SkyDome in Toronto.

But Toronto would be a good Super bowl city if they built a dome. So the promise of say 3 Super Bowls within 20 years seems like it would be enough to get the thing done.

Yep, requiring every fan to have a passport and travel to Toronto is a brilliant idea.

Would need to change the name after expanding into other countries.

I am friends with 3 ppl from Toronto here in med school. I asked them if they went to any of the Bills games there and they said no. Canada doesn't care about football (American or Canadian).
Canada's sports rankings:
1. Hockey
2. Hockey
3. Baseball
4. Soccer
5. Curling and other winter sports
6. Canadian football

Good point. There are no people who have passports, and Toronto's population is 0.
