The coaching legacies are the most interesting storyline of these playoffs for me.

If Saban wins, he will have 6 national titles and will be considered the best coach of all time by many

However

If Meyer wins, he will have 4 national titles at only 52 years old, an age in which Saban only had 1.

So Saban would go from best of all time, to not even the best current coach all in one breath.

Crazy thin line there

Then you also have Dabo, who at his age a win is huge for building his legacy going forward, just as a win legitimizes Peterson as an all timer as well.

Just like if LeBron would have lost to GSW in 7, he shouldn't have dropped to some completely different tier of greatness, Saban wouldn't stop being one of the greatest coaches along with Meyer.

It just seems flawed that one game can somehow change a legacy of hundreds of games and multiple championships drastically.

Where did I say that?

But if Meyer wins, he will be the considered the best current coach in college football by the majority, where as if Saban wins, he will be considered the best of all time by many.

So he would fall from best of all time, to second best current coach.

I think it is an interesting narrative shift

i already think Saban is the GOAT and Meyer is certainly top 5

it's really crazy to think about the coaching talent of my adult life (2001-present)

Well going from the greatest of all time to not even the best current coach seems exteme. He's one of the greatest win or lose--winning helps but losing doesn't negate it somehow, in my opinion.

Not when the other coach (Meyer), will be top 5 all time. So it is really like falling from 1 to 3 all time

According to many, yes.

If Meyer wins, I would consider him better than Saban right now.

4 national championships, and 165-28(.854) all time at 52 years old

5 national championships, and 204-60-1(.769) all time at 65 years old

If OSU wins the Playoff and Meyer beats Saban in the process, you'll see a lot of people argue that Meyer is right there with Saban. I don't think Meyer is better but he'll certainly have an argument.

Well this is a more reasonable context.

They are both all timers, but I think the nod would have to go to Meyer

If Meyer beats Saban, Saban has a heart attack, leaves Alabama and goes to Oregon I could believe your argument. Otherwise I think it's pretty safe to say Saban > Meyer since he literally ran his arse out of the SEC.

I am not sure why this has downvotes and so many people seem to take offense to it?

People are talking about Saban being the best ever, and winning his 6th will be a huge notch to but him over the top. If he wins this one, the media will go full on he is the best ever, and rightfully so.

Now, if Meyer wins, he will have only 1 less national championship at 13 years younger, and 2 out of the last 3 national championships and many will consider him better than Saban, and rightfully so.

It isnt really a controversial take at all.

So even if at the end of their careers Meyer ends up with say 2 more national championships than Saban, would this still be your reasoning that Saban is better than Meyer?

So if Meyer beats Saban, he will have 4 national titles to Saban's 5, while being 13 years younger

He will also have a.854 win pct to Sabans .765 win pct

He will also be 3-2 vs Saban head to head

But because of some stupid myth about Saban running him out the conference, you wont concede he is better, or at least right with him?

It may not go down like this in the history books, but it's clear to many the Urban quit when the going got tough at Florida and timing was perfect for OSU. I think that should be reflected in his legacy. He's a great coach, no doubt.

Saban has run many coaches out of the SEC. Urban left voluntarily.
