Or, I'm sorry, got "the twisties" and bowed out of the competition.

quote:

Wearing a black-and-white bedazzled leotard, the 26-year-old Biles saw signs being held in support by the sold-out crowd. Her all-around score of 59.100 was easily the best of the night.

Wearing No. 231 and sporting a necklace bearing “Owens” in tribute to her new husband, NFL cornerback Jonathan Owens, Biles began her night on the uneven bars. She wasn’t perfect, nearly stalling near the end of her routine, but hit her dismount.

Her score on the uneven bars of 14.000 was the third-best of the competition.

That led up to the moment all were waiting for – the floor exercise.

Biles kept all three of her tumbling passes on the floor inbounds, something that was a problem at times in Tokyo. Her score of 14.900 included a start value of 6.8, a massive amount of difficulty considering no other athlete had a start value over 5.9.

The Classic is a prelude to the U.S. Championships later this month, with the world championships coming in October and the Olympics less than a year out.

So many of y’all care so much about these athletes you hate like Biles and Rapinoe.

It’s honestly impressive

You've got more fricks to muster about gymnastics than I do.

Didn’t she bow out from the Olympics due to the sexual assault case from Larry Nassar?

I mean it sucks she didn’t come through in the Olympics, but bashing someone for mental health issues isn’t it bro.

I would like to think any decent American would care about how athletes represent their nation in international competition. But that's just me.

Being weak is not the same thing as mental health issues

Don’t you have to care a lot about something to hate it?

Alleged mental health issues.

But that's all it takes these days. Mental health has become such a red herring for our deficiencies that it can be used to cover for anything that might be going wrong in our lives.

I suspect that if it was called “being disoriented in the air” it would be taken more seriously than with a stupid name like the twisties.

But I also lay blame with Biles and her team for conflating the unfortunate timing of being disoriented in the air with mental health and how this actually makes her an even bigger hero than if she won 4-5 medals.

She’s tied for the most Olympic medals of any American gymnast including 4 golds. She also has 25 world championship gold medals.

I think her career would suggest she clearly has the mental strength to dominate at the highest level. Rather than “being weak”, the fact that she wasn’t able to do it in that specific moment suggests to me she was going through some kind of mental issue.

Yes there are athletes like Phelps and others who have dealt with mental health issues and were actually able to overcome them and continue to compete at the highest level, unfortunately she wasn’t able to. I don’t personally think that takes away from her as a person or from what she’s been able to accomplish in her career.

ETA: I do agree with the poster above that this doesn’t make her “braver” or “better” because she had these issues. It’s definitely a negative defining moment of her career and may keep her from being on the Mount Rushmore of best American athletes ever, but it doesn’t take away from everything she’s done.

If she comes back next year and does in Paris what was expected in Tokyo, she may be up there the all-time US greats.

I know very little about gymnastics but it’s easy enough to do some simple math and project her scores, and I figure we’ll know in a few months if that can happen.

Biles and the USWNT are not the same. Biles got fricked up because she lost her confidence and couldn't fall back on Adderall like usual because Japan don't play drugs...

The USWNT openly parrot cultural Marxist talking points they've been told to say/brainwashed into and openly hate the nation on a worldwide stage.

The media is actually the biggest enemy in the Biles case. They are the ones who told her she was a "champion of bravery" and all that bullshite because she had a battle of the yipps on the biggest stage.

Biles has never come across as a complete asshat like the women's team. She actually seems like decent person (spoiled American princess, yes, but still nice on TV) whereas the USWNT are just vile despicable people.

Well unlike that man Rapinghoe, I’d at least dick down Biles

I was under the impression Adderall withdrawals were the root cause. She’d been taking it for years, but stimulants are illegal in Japan, so she had to go cold turkey right before she started competition.

How big of an ego do you have to have to say this

quote:

I know very little about gymnastics

Followed by this

quote:

she may be up there the all-time US greats.
