re: Should panthers draft Fournette if he's available?

IMO They should not.
I think Fournette is one of the best backs I've ever seen, he is the #2 player in this draft for me. He is definitely capable of pass catching (though with a limited ceiling in that type of role) IMO.
That being said.. I think the biggest thing you gain from having Fournette on your team (this is pretty obvious..) is that he is such a powerful runner in the hole. His size/speed/accel combo means that if he hits an open hole with that power built up and makes it through and into your secondary, you are fricking toast. You HAVE to stop him in the hole. Because of this, teams usually bring LBs or safeties down in motion to meet him in the hole. If you go back and watch LSU on offense you can see it a lot. They stack the box, and they put the guys in motion pre snap. This frees up SO much space in the short-medium-middle of the field for QBs to throw into. It was not taken advantage of too much at LSU because of the QB situation, but in the NFL, it will be. For the Panthers, they already have some of these advantages because teams often choose to counter Cam's feet with extra men in the box anyway. Fournette would be formidable in their offense, but he would be formidable in any offense IMO. Also, the Panthers use shotgun formations 8th most in the league. Fournette has run almost exclusively out of power formations. They could change this, but IDK if Cam needs to have playbook changes of any magnitude at this point with his current struggles.

He's a beast but they have to upgrade on the OL somehow or Cam and/or Fournette won't be able to do anything.

I hope Carolina doesn't get Fournette. I hope Carolina doesn't get Mccaffrey, even though he would be a very odd fit.

quote:Not great for the Rams, but they have serious offensive problems. Easy to stack the box when you have no other offensive weapons. Great for the Cowboys. Led the league in rushing by a substantial margin.
How'd they pan out?
quote:Sure thing, pops.
And if you do off the top of you head and you're not Todd McShay or Mel Kiper you need to get out more.

You don't know who Ezekial Elliott is? Do you even follow the NFL? If you are a big enough nerd to be posting on a message board devoted to sports then you should know who the rookie of the year was the immediate year that just passed.

It's the Edgerrin James / Ricky Williams dilemma for them IMO.
The Colts correctly chose James b/c he was a better fit for them (even though Ricky was a beast and a superior all around RB IMO).
I think that even though Fournette is a superior NFL back, Easy Jr. is clearly a better fit for the Panthers.

Of course I know who he is. His draft position? Forgot.

In the 2nd round? Sure.

If I was the Panthers, I wouldn't trade up for him, because this draft is pretty deep with good RB's, but if he's still around by the time you pick at 8.. Absolutley, yes, I would draft him. I personally think he'll be gone, but you never know.

If they want the best RB in the draft they should draft Mixon, but that's not going to happen. Dalvin Cook has some red flags that have scared some teams off. Supposedly it's because of the company he keeps off the field, according to Dan Patrick. Gang members?

I have never doubted for a minute that LF is a fantastic running back.
What I also don't doubt is that LF would be crack to Ron Rivera/Mike Shula's love of ultra-conservative, run-primary offense cocaine.

Mccaffery would be better

If anyone needs a laugh, Bill Simmons spent 10 minutes talking about McCaffery being a slot WR and he can't believe someone would pick a slot WR that high

Yea, you're not qualified to weigh in on this whatsoever. Just shitposting
The QB's suck in this draft relatively speaking, that's a plus for a transcendent talent like Fournette to go even higher. It's a deep draft & you can likely get better value at #14 than you can at #6

Mccaffrey & Mixon will be better. But I do have a feeling that Fournette fits the mold of a tailback that the Panthers want in that offense.
