Keep in mind the HoF does not only include players, but broadcasters have also been inducted along with owners, coaches, GMs etc.

Absolutely not. Would be disrespectful to the game.

Here’s a guy that criticizes everybody, whoever they take. He’s got the answers to who you should take and who you shouldn’t take. In my knowledge of him, he’s never, ever put on a jock strap. He’s never been a coach. He’s never been a scout. He’s never been an administrator. And all of a sudden he’s an expert. He’s in our papers two days ago telling us who we have to take. We don’t have to take anybody that Mel Kiper says we have to take. Mel Kiper has no more credentials to do what he’s doing than my neighbor, and my neighbor’s a postman and he doesn’t even have season tickets to the NFL.

***I guess the downvotes are people who don't know the history of this quote.

Kiper does not equal Sabol and NFL films, whoever floated that idea.

Litmus test as Madden would say...can you write the major history of "the game" without including that guy?

Pretty sure you can omit ESPN talking heads and people wouldn't feel befuddled.

What are we talking about? Mock drafts? A few days in April?

I like Mel Kiper. The late Joel Buschbaum would have to be considered also.

Yes.

He is the first of his kind. Went hand in hand with ESPNs rise. Nobody watched the draft. You couldn’t before espn showed it and he became the first guy who specialized in it.

First to do it and is still a top guy after 35 years or so?

It just whether or not his position is HOF worthy by the HOF standards. You can’t lump him in with broadcasters. He made his own sub specialty of broadcaster.

Most people say yes so it’s obviously more than a question.

What about McShay?
Not unless he works out, makes a team, and leads them to five out of seven Super Bowls. That's not happening. Being the 2nd guy the same network hired to contrast with Kiper means nothing. It's just one of the ways ESPN ruined itself.

I think a broken watch has been odds of me right, than Mel Kiper Jr. does.

The man has made a living off being wrong.

I think the Draft would have grown to be the event it is today even if Kiper had not been born. Why Roselle and others had the event inside a holiday Inn makes no sense. If you claim that football and the draft has become more popular with television and marketing then I don’t think Mel Kiper gets credit for that.

People have been forecasting the weather on television for decades but meteorology became more popular as The Weather Channel and AccuWeather grew.

His hair is worthy of induction before his broadcasting and draft analysis. He is probably one of the main reasons why the draft is as popular as it is.
