He tested them a few years ago and did quite well in practice. I suspect he might have some success.

Why would he? Nascar drivers make ten times the money Indy drivers do.

I doubt he ever does but he is retiring after this season, so I guess one reason he would do it is to try something different? He started out as an open wheel driver so maybe he wants to just know if he could succeed or not?

all that to say I think the main reasons he is retiring, other than the beginnings of back trouble, is to be able to spend time with his kids so I suspect he won't be doing any racing

Gordon has already stated he will never run Indy and the closest he will ever get was when he drove the pace car this year at the 500.

I don't remember the year, and I saw this on tv, but apparently Gordon ran Indy cars in tests and did pretty good for cars not set up for race or qualifying trim.

At least the guys talking about it said they were impressed how well he did.

Gordon already has media commitments for next year, so his racing days are coming to a close.

Too dangerous. That's the greatest thing NASCAR has done- virtually eliminated the deaths. Took Dale's deaths to do it, but they did.

Had Austin Dillon been in an Indy Car at Daytona, he would've been dead.

I'll never understand why the 24 never won another title. Jimmie Johnson and The Chase were the two worst things that could've happened to Jeff. Never was the same driver the past 7-10 years as he was in late 90's.

If you take the Chase format out, Gordon has 3 more titles under old format if I'm not mistaken. At least two more for sure.

Edit: He would be a 7-time champ under old points system. He would have been champ last year.

The problem is not necessarily him, but rules changes. He was pretty dominant last year.

Gordon has milions, his health and a very good Nascar legacy.

Dude should take his lady to the Caribbean and never come back.

Jeff started kicking arse with Loomis then Robbie left. He has had to learn several crew chiefs since then. Last year he finally got settled in.

Jeff Gordon could continue to be competitive in his forties if he didn't wish to retire in NASCAR.

He could not in any open wheel series because he's a 45 year old middle-aged fart.

Nor should he want to, because IRL might as well stand for Intentionally Ruining Lives.
