to the NBA standard? I think so, it would mean fewer "cinderella" mid-major teams and more interest from outside the diehard college fans. Don't give me this "everyone loves an underdog" bs the tourney in which George Mason got to the final 4 was putrid. Also you have cheesy teams which rely on the 3 so much, like WV a few years ago or Duke.

quite the opposite -- non-diehards like seeing non-glandular freaks have a chance to play

I'd be willing to bet the 2006 Final Four had some of the worst ratings ever.

Same here... But the three point line isn't gonna eliminate cinderellas. There are good shooters on mid major teams just like the big time schools

And as for the 3 pt line distance... You rarely see shooters "toe" the line when they are shooting threes. A good shooter can make a three from anywhere behind the arc.. This was discussed when they first moved it back a few years ago

I think it should be moved back to the NBA line, or maybe 6 inches or a foot closer.

if you move the 3 point line back the average score would be 45-40

The reasoning is poor. If all you have is that it will help eliminate the cinderella...then you don't have much of anything.

There are some NBA teams that rely heavily on the 3-ball...one of them has the best record in the L. Maybe we need to move it back and widen the court to reduce their chances.

nah

ETA: Oh, and there is pretty much no way they can move the 3 point line back to the NBA line in college without also outlawing zone defenses. The two would have to go hand in hand.

LSU, Florida, George Mason, UCLA? I doubt it....with George Mason making that huge run I figure tons of people would be watching? Maybe I'm wrong.

The NBA 3pt line is 22 ft on the corners and 23'9" on top the key. The NBA briefly went to a uniform 22ft for the 94'-95' season till the 97'-98' season when it was reverted back.

IMO, the 20'9" 3pt line in college needs to be moved back some from it's original 19"9'. I say move it back 1ft to make it a uniform 21'9", which would put it exactly in between the 3pt line in highschool and NBA. Would also make court look better by having the women's line and the men's line farther apart.

Anyone have or know where to find, say, last year's overall 3pt% for college and the NBA?

Looks like the NBA is pretty steady right around .360 per season, per Basketball Reference.

Also looks like the NBA guys shoot it better than the college guys.

This basically means 2 things imo:

1. Most people are freaking out a bit too much over 3pt shooting in NCAA.

2. Moving it back to the NBA line in CBB would be disastrous.

FWIW, FIBA just move their 3pt line recently from 20 ft 6.1 inches to 22 ft 1.7 inches.

I think all levels of basketball should use FIBA rules.
