By your logic, I should be considered a good basketball player. If only I were 6 inches taller, ripped, could jump high, quick, and could dribble with my left hand.

Nope, it's MJ because everyone unanimously accepts him as GOAT without researching others who may be more deserving.

That's because no one else is.

Shaq is one of the best passing big men of all time. He was also outstanding at recognizing double teams and getting the right pass out. That may sound simple, but it's not. It's very much a skill. Shaq was also a good dribbler. He dribbled coast to coast many times, which is outstanding for 300+ pounds.

To sum up, Shaq is underrated.

The 3 championships Shaq won with the Lakers, he was Finals MVP all 3 years, so get the fricking frick out of here about how he played with Kobe. "He only won because of Kobe." Shaq was honestly the better player as a Laker at the time than Kobe was. Shaq was the most dominating center in NBA history. You really think he is overrated because he had no jump shot? As a fricking center? Seriously? This thread is so fricking stupid I swear to God.

Shaq was the single most difficult player to guard in NBA history and he's overrated? You've hit an all time low with this thread congrats.

Shaq isn't overrated. No one is trying to mask or ignore his terrible free throws and jump shots, etc.

He's perfectly rated as an all-time dominant big man.

He was never the go to guy at the end of games. How many game winning shots did he ever have?

He's a center. And Kobe Bryant was shooting at the end of the game. Because Kobe was a shooting guard... and a superstar.

ETA: Just realized you were not only trying to call him overrated but were trying to call him THE MOST overrated player in 25 years of NBA history I take back my comments, not worth the time

So should a basketball player who can only dunk

Less then half of his 28000+ career points are from dunks. His jump hook was very good and he could score from either block, going left or right.

Shaq is the only Center in NBA History to have 13 seasons averaging at least 20 points and 10 rebounds in the same season. And those were all in consecutive seasons. Kareem, Wilt, Russell, Hakeem and every other center to ever play never did that.

He is far from overrated. He is easily one of the top 15 players of all time and by most accounts a top 10 player all time.

I mean OP has a point.

Bill Simmons and others have consistently downgraded Wilt over the years, even though Wilt was far more dominant than Shaq by the numbers against his peers.

I don't agree...but they seem to be emphasizing skill over...you are just so much more physically imposing naturally.

For instance, Hakeem gets far more love than Shaq by the pundits for his moves, agility and game.

Shaq has one of the best size to speed agility ratios of any human ever. He wasn't an amazing defender and he was a terrible free throw shooter. He was still an all time great with a couple flaws.

He had great offensive moves outside of power though. Great footwork for a man that size.

I always thought he had great hands for being so huge. He was a very underrated passer from the post.
