Alabama
Texas A&M
Florida
LSU
Georgia
South Carolina
And Vanderbilt and MSU probably would give them a good game.
Thank god we moved to the "eyeball" test to determine national championship participants....right?

The problem is independents don't belong

Don't forget Ole Miss. They thrashed a team ND needed triple OT to beat.

are there any boards you don't troll?

yea, I was just pointing out the inconsistency of college football media pundits

But, but, but Oklahoma and Pitt and Michigan and Michigan St.

Wiki's indeed a pretty big troll.
This, however, seems like a pretty legitimate topic of discussion.
I agree with his list, and think Ole Miss and Vandy could each give them a decent game and maybe win 2-3 out of 10.

You must mean beating that mean Pitt team in overtime that was blown out by Ole Miss,
Or beating that Oklahoma, that was also dominated by K-St and Texas A&M.
About their best win was against Stanford, and even they were kind of up and down this year.
Don't play 3 real games and then try calling yourself worthy.........

Yea, this was not meant to be a troll job at all.
I truly believe the 6 teams I listed would beat ND with relative ease.

and it was a questionable win at that. at the very least, it should have gone into overtime if the proper call had been made on the goal line

USC
Michigan St
Michigan
Oklahoma
All considered big wins at the time...now look bad.
Stanford was the only good game in the bunch.

It did go into overtime. And the right call was made but even if you disagree with that call and give them the TD, Stanford still would have been behind on the scoreboard.
I have never said that the Irish were a great team or even one of the two best teams in the country but when a team plays a schedule ranked around the 20th hardest and goes undefeated they should be rewarded for that. They earned their spot in that g ame last night.

They didn't belong on the same field
They problem with their schedule is it's not a conference schedule. So they can claim it's really tough by playing a bunch of teams that are 3rd and 4th in their conference with winning records but they dodge all the elite teams.
If they play in an actual conference they'll eventually run into the #1 team in that conference and can't skate by beating historically good teams like Michigan who haven't won shite in over a decade.

MSU
Legitimately bad team. ND would roll them.
Ole Miss would be a better choice but I would probably stop at that top six.

my bad. I guess I meant it should have gone to double OT

Stanford still would have been behind on the scoreboard.
they would have had to make the extra point. what percentage of extra points did Stanford miss all year? is that something that should really come into play in debating the game?
Also, let's not forget other ND "squeakers"
Like the phantom PI call on 4th down against BYU that would have effectively ended the game if not called
Or the Pitt kicker shitting his pants and missing a kick in OT that would have won the game

I have never said that the Irish were a great team or even one of the two best teams in the country
So you admit that they weren't one of the two best teams in the country but then defend them playing for the national championship as one of the two best teams in the country.
Look, I can't blame ND for being where they were. I blame the shitty system that is college football.
And the inconsistency of the college football media is infuriating. Do we use the "eyeball test" or not?

By your logic, Louisville could beat all the teams in SEC except Alabama? Maybe A&M, Georgia?
