quote:

“After much thought and careful consideration, I and I alone, have come to the conclusion that I am not the right head coach for this team,” said Skiles. “Therefore, effective immediately, I resign my position as head coach of the Orlando Magic. I realize this type of decision can cause much speculation. The reality though is in the first sentence. It is simple and true. Any other rumors are pure conjecture.”

“I sincerely apologize for any unintended consequences that may adversely affect anyone associated with this decision,” Skiles continued. “The Magic are a world-class organization that employs world-class people. I wish them nothing but great success. I will always be thankful, especially to the DeVos family, for the opportunity.”

“While we understand it was a challenging season, we reluctantly have accepted Scott’s (Skiles) resignation,” said Hennigan. “We appreciate Scott instilling a culture of accountability and certainly wish him and his family well.”

Crazy, wonder what drove him out. Vogel would be a great replacement

Gotta be something behind the scenes. They were improving gradually during the year. This may be a ploy to get Dwight back is my assumption. Who do they go for, McHale?

They started off hot then collapsed late in the regular season.

Doesn't strike me as a guy who's highly coveted...if I had to guess, it's friction with the FO.

I wonder if Orlando is considering tanking. They have a lot of young talent but nobody great. They already gave away Harris. There was some speculation they were clearing cap space to go big in FA and sign someone like Horford. Maybe the opposite is happening and they're blowing it up and a Vucevic for a pick kind of move is in the works?

He's still pissed that they drafted Penny and pushed him out. This is the ultimate long play troll

Hennigan was pissed at Skiles because he harassed the DeVos family w calls & texts to land job, then said in mid-Jan he no longer wanted it.

Hennigan wanted to tell the DeVos family of Skiles admission that he made mistake taking job... CEO Alex Martins recommended they not.

1st hint of Skiles' discontent came when he told Ast Adrian Griffin he made mistake... Griffin hesitated, but eventually went to management.

According to my sources Hennigan, Martins & Griffin were only ones within org to know of Skiles admitting he no longer wanted job.

I was actually reall surprised by the hire at the time. Skiles is a rather stubborn coach and he has never done to well with developing young talent. He is more of a coach for a team with a veteran nucleus.

Does this mean no more great quotes from him anymore?

I always liked this one from him.

Reporter: What can Eddie Curry do to improve his rebounding?

Skiles: Jump.
