Haven't seen it but Ive heard good reviews.

Isn't the main characters son becoming the "antithesis" of "black" and the father can't wrap his mind around it ?

the poor Whites from Mississippi that were featured on HBO a while back. Like I know those people are real and there are plenty of them but I know those aren't all Whites
I get that but here's the reason black people are discussed as a group when these topics come up

but I know those aren't all Whites

the statistics are so disproportionate from black people to everyone else...it's like people refuse to acknowledge this, and whatever you think or I think is the root cause will never get solved because somehow acknowledging this is met with, "but yeah I know some white people who do/say x and I know they aren't all the same"

We KNOW black people aren't all the same...that's not what is in question. However there is a disturbingly large portion of black people that fit a pattern...and it's not a good one.

At least we've graduated from responding with "you're racist"

it kind of works both ways

like the father being racist or ignorant for wanting to "keep it real"

but also acknowledging other, pretty harmless things. Like white people "yo homes"'ing their black colleagues and friends

it's just funny, it could be fricking nation of islam for all I care.

I thought it would be a disaster, but it's a good show.

I'm that guy IRL. I'm black, but not "black". I know exactly what they are talking about.

This is a view point that my white friend would never understand. Because at the end of the day, I get all the shite that every other black guy gets from white people, I get the black jokes, I get the black stereotypes even though I don't live up to them, but unlike "black" black people I don't get the refuge of having a tribe that I belong to. I'm a black computer programmer that lives in the south. I'm about as popular as ebola lol.

Yeah, I'll get jobs, I own my own company, it does quite well. I get projects from clients, I get all the "opportunities" that anyone else is able to get. That's not the problem. You say you watch shite like Breaking bad or mad men or the west wing and you get looked at by black people as white. You like jazz instead of rap, even though jazz is really black lol, you get looked at as "white".

But at the same time, you still come to forums like this and have to take the brunt of all the black people stereotype jokes. All the black people are stupid / lazy / ignorant /whatever jokes, and you have to take that shite in stride. I got one white friend that I can call and have a beer with that's cool like that. Too white for black people, too black for white people basically. That's why any black man worth a shite ups and goes north or west if they can. I will be soon.

And don't' get me started on black women. Black girls assume because you don't "spit game" at them that you like white girls (which I do lol but still) or that you're gay. It's like if you don't' come into a room with a handgun and a do rag on you aren't black enough for them. Then they bitch about not being able to find a good man. frick em all.

Yeah I'm mad dammit.

I worked with a guy once who told me he was an outcast in both the black community and the white community. I didn't really understand it at the time, especially since he wasn't particularly the "Carlton" type. I guess that's. What the poster above me is talking about.

I've said for years that, imo, black people seem to have much more pressure to conform to a certain m.o. than do white people. White people seem to have the "freedom" to be whatever they are, without having to fit a stereotype or rigid profile.

Just my opinion, but I actually think this has turned out to be a pretty good thread. I wish we could have more threads like this where people could just speak honestly, and have other posters do the same. I think we're all guilty of resorting to knee-jerk reactions at times, instead of just having an honest back and forth discussion.

EDIT - I temporarily forgot that this thread was on the MSB. Maybe that's why it has played out pretty well. On the PT, this thread may have ended up much differently

Of course most Blacks will fit a profile because most Blacks live similarly and are from similar socioeconomic circumstances. That's more so about socioeconomics than race. Many southern Blacks and southern Whites share cultural similarities in food, speech, and worship. Those White churches in Appalachia get crunk!

But, Russell Wilson is from privilege and he's more privileged than most Whites without ever playing a down in the NFL. So, he's going to be different.

I wouldn't be mad. I wouldn't care. It's so inconsequential, and who needs to "belong" anyway?

But I don't blame you, you'll find much of the same wherever you go with few exceptions

Just s byproduct of stupidity, political correctness and having fewer individuals.

When 95% of white people vote for the same candidate let me know

The disproportionate statistical distribution is exclusive to black people living in the United states

Just a fact, and in a roundabout way you keep saying "no it's not"

It is. Sure group behavior exists among all people, but there is so much variety in terms of income, consumer habits, and criminal behavior among everyone. Everyone EXCEPT...you know

I get this once a month at least. "Dude you know who you remind me of, that dude off fresh prince" I'm like bitch frick you lol.

I mean I do okay. Most of my friends are females, dudes are the worst. I have a harem f white female friends, chicks are cool as frick about race, it's dudes.

But the educated black man, is the most shite on person in america. White people think he's either ghetto or an al shartpon lover lol black people think he's Mike Tirico. shite Mike Tirico doesn't even want to be black lol LINK /

You date a black girl she busts your balls for not being black enough and you date a white girl and everything calls your girl a mudshark and other shite. You can't win. I can understand why a lot of people who if they put their mind to it, could really do some shite, just say frick it, open up a 40oz and watch BET all day. Though that would never be me I like the person I am.

Some interesting stuff, vengeanceofrain. In two posts, you've managed to paint an extremely vivid picture regarding various aspects of your life, and how different people relate to you.

A couple of thoughts regarding your comment about educated black males having to put up with more crap than anybody. First of all, relating that comment directly to this thread, I have a strong suspicion that Russell Wilson would say "Amen" to that. I mean, as far as I know, his only crime is that he's basically just being himself. It's a shame that some people are apparently upset that he doesn't conform to their idea of how a black man is supposed to act, talk, who their friends should be, etc.

Secondly, I think you may be a little off base regarding how white people perceive educated black people. I think most white people recognize an educated person when they see one, black or otherwise. For example, I think a lot of white people admire Dr. Ben Carson. His political leanings seem to be somewhat unconventional for a black person, though, so it seems like a significant number of black people see him as a sellout or even an Uncle Tom. I would be interested to know what your take on him is.

Not that politics has anything to do with being educated. For example, I can tell that Michael Eric Dyson is well-educated, even though I despise him

Interesting moniker, btw. Any particular significance attached to that name?

To me this is proof that the NBA is light years ahead of the NFL.

The NBA has more "white" acting black dudes than any other entity or organization that I can think of. If you think that dressing like a professional, grooming well, speaking thoughtfully and intelligently is important than NBA stars from Kobe Bryant to Kevin Durant to Chris Paul are all better role models than most NFL players.
