Explain why this is confusing to you?

titles should mean nothing to durant's legacy as a player, if titles are a team stat

Lebron made it ok for these guys to form a super team. Like durant Lebron's legacy also takes a hit. Biggest diff is Lebron could've been GOAT. KD was never in the discussion.

the crazy question is: what if they don't win titles?

or

how many titles is enough to justify the move? 2? 3? 4?

Neither were on lebron or KDs level when they made the move. That's why Lebron took heat and the Boston guys didn't. Lebron had goat potential. The others didn't.

The reason they didn't take heat is because it's ok for a certain level of player to make a super friends team and once you get past that level it isn't.

Lebron made it ok for a player of his stature to join a super friends team. He was the first. He took all the heat whoever comes after him won't get it as bad bc hey Lebron did it. Without that durant wouldn't have done it.

The celts guys are irrelevant bc they aren't at the level of player for people to have an issue with them forming a super team. Durant and Lebron are.

KG was the MVP three years before joining the celts

Durant was the MVP 2 years before joing the Thunder

The celts players took no heat for forming a super team.

Durant took a good bit of heat. But nowhere near Lebron.

The proof is right there in front of you. Had the celts players been perceived as a higher level player more people would have had an issue with it.

Lebron - best player - took most heat
Durant - next best - next most heat
Celts players - worst of the bunch - took no heat

If you have GOAT potential it's not ok to form a super Friends team. The further down the pecking order you fall the more ok it is.

Lebron joining an average Heat team with pretty good D Wade and pretty good Bosh does not equal KD joining a 73 win GS team one game away from a title.

Durant is a puss.

Wade and bosh were both top 4 in PER. that's more than 'pretty good' it's elite.

I Can't blame Durant for wanting to live in the Bay Area.

Bosh never won as a top dog. Not even a conference final

Wade needed Shaq and the refs to get a title.

GS was almost the best team of all time before game 7.

I can blame Durant for going full BETA

If KD wins 3-4 and Westbrook none? Zero chance of that, KD will be remembered as a 3 time champ who played for one of the GOAT teams 20 years from now.

Westbrook will be that great who never won, like Barkley.

and how many times have we all made the "team stat" argument re: titles?
Not sure how that's relevant or what you disagree with? KD went to GS, why? Because at this point in his career, his main goal is to win a title, no?

quote:

a lot of you guys have turned your back on that (and it's ironic given the actual reality of this situation)
That has nothing to with why KD, 10 years in the league went to GS. That comparison doesn't even make sense...at all.

I definitely didn't state my opinion correctly. I meant, as I said above, KD's goal at this point in his career is win a title, that's his top priority. I didn't add that in there. I'm saying KD's ultimate goal is to win a title, not to win a title with the team that drafted him, it's just to win a title.

It's confusing because shel is the undisputed king of ignoring actual results/success and evaluating everyone by VORP/WAR/QBR/whatever. Because "team game."
I mentioned how "history" will remember those guys. I am not history.
