Where are coaches on this? When I was a kid and didn't run a ground ball out to first base, I got benched. I mean, I was coached, I was told, "You're gonna hustle
I think that players should be criticized for slacking; however, his comparison is dumb. I'm sure kids are still being coached to hustle at the little league or whatever level he is talking about. Unless he is observing the little league fields around the country, I can only assume he is witnessing the lack of hustle at the MLB level, which is fundamentally different. Unless he can objectively measure compare the effort and discipline at the professional level across time, then he's just playing the "good old days" card. In fact, I would imagine the nutrition and training off the field is far more intensive today than on the past. That work takes true discipline.

Yeah, back in the days when guys like Ty Cobb would go into the stands to beat the shite out of an armless man for razzing him the players had respect for the game!

to add to rush's list: players following their shot. No one runs up to the basket to follow their shot, or not many. They all fade back and start transitioning to defense.

You do realize most coaches mostly want their guards and swingmen to get back on D in the NBA don't you? If you crash the glass all the time you are going to get wrecked in transition.

They wouldn't say something this stupid, so your point is irrelevant.

I was annoyed that they censored the poo poo ball, but how fricking stupid is that?
funny they did this but had no issue showing multiple replays and angles of the fight at the end.

Imagine Urban Meyer PUNCHING a player on the opposing team during a game.

Worse yet. Many of the same people would criticize players for not getting back on defense. They would probably blame it on the "me" that only wants to get the glory stats of offense.

Give it up, man. 40 years ago, only men went to the games, everybody drank, smoked, and gambled, and an in-game fight rarely drew a suspension or was worthy of front page news. Now women and children are at the game, gambling fixes are gleaned by playing fantasy sports, smoking is banned, no beer after the third quarter, and if there's an altercation, a player leaving the bench accidentally gets suspended for a game

This times 100. Also athletes rarely got suspended for off the field stuff years ago. Suspensions for alcohol, drugs, PEDs, yeah right. A large majority of athletes today have way more discipline that their predecessors, if for no other reason than they have more at risk with more restrictive contracts and stronger penalties for both on and off the field behavior.
