It never ceases to amaze me how people throw out times like nothing. I run a 24 min 5k but this weekend I'm gonna try to break 20. If you've never run competitively please stop. What's even worse is the all these football players who throw out 4.4 as their 40 time, like that's the standard. Sub 4 mins is unreal

It would be historic because none of the other LA guys who broke 4:00 did it in Louisiana. Actually, I think sub-4:00 has only been accomplished once in LA.

The sub-4:00 equivalent at 1500m was completed multiple times at the 1992 Olympic Trials. Including 2x by Sulphur's Mike Morin. But for some reason people like the mile better.

yea i dont understand why people pretty much ignore when someone hits the 1500 on pace for sub 4. guess its because we're in america.

I ran a 5k a few years ago in 21:30

I'm sure if I trained I could run a sub 4 minute mile

The mile is such an iconic distance is why. Even some of the big European meets have a mile instead of a 1500. And 3:41.8 just isn't as sexy as 3:59.

Jarrett LeBlanc ran his mile in 4 minutes and 1.3 seconds. Fastest mile ran by a Louisianian on Louisiana soil.

And to think Roger Bannister did it on a dirt track. While going to medical school full time.

FLYING. I know this Meet Under the Lights thing, while having grown popular, isn't some NCAA or pro-am meet with typically sub 4 type athletes, so how did the pacing work?

Did they have another guy take him out right at 1:59 for the half? Did a second guy then jump in to run another 2-flat or better for the 2nd half? Or was he on his own after the first 2-2 1/2 laps?

One paced through 400 another through 800. He was on his own from there.

I know Bob Smith at LSU did it in the seventies. Maybe even Tom Douple. I know I was so far back...

Impressive. If he could get into a race where a group is dragging him the whole way (which he shouldn't have a problem getting into such a race), then sub-4 is definitely a possibility.

However, I know the goal here was to actually do it on Louisiana soil. Going to be tough to bring that kind of competition, though, unless LSU would work with him and possibly host some sort of big celebrity mile race for one of their outdoor meets and sent invites.

I went to this last night and he ran 4:01.03. I believe the splits were about 58,1:58,and 2:59. He was flying and faded just slightly in the last 50 yards. I thought he had it even until the end. I couldn't see the clock on the track but was using the stopwatch on my phone to track his time.

Is this suppose to be difficult. I'm not a runner and without really trying I run a 7 min mile pace on my first two miles out of a 10 mile run.

Maybe I should go all out and try to do this.
