ATLANTA -- Roger McDowell's 11-season tenure as the Braves' pitching coach ended on Friday, when he was informed the club would not exercise his option for the 2017 season.

Veteran pitchers have lauded McDowell as a great pitching coach and many young pitchers have thrived under his tutelage. But as the Braves prepare to bring many of their top pitching prospects to Atlanta over the next few years, they determined they need a new voice.
The Braves will likely wait to name a manager before filling their pitching-coach void. Brian Snitker and Bud Black remain the top managerial candidates.

I think that pretty much telegraphs that Bud Black will be the manager.

Agreed.

He was a hell of a pitching coach, but Black will be hired soon IMO.

Hiring Black gets me as depressed as I was when we traded Simba. I really enjoyed watching this team once Snit tookover and especially so in the second half. I trust Coppy and Co, but this sucks. Also sucks for Roger, who seems to be a top pitching coach.

Can someone fill me in as to the deal with Bud Black. Wiki says he was manager of the year in 2010, but he's got a sub .500 winning percentage. I know that obviously doesn't count for much, so I'm trying to figure out what the upside to this guy is. The Padres have been pretty shite for some time haven't they, and that was his last stop?

Rightfully so. Their young pitchers showed no progression

How do you feel about Black? I wanna give Snitker the opportunity for a full season and see how he does.

He doesn't even need to coach, just let him rock for nostalgia.

Just simply not the right hire. Snit is the only answer.
