“There are ways to produce more off days in the schedule," he said, according to The Associated Press. "Some of those have very significant economic ramifications that — if in fact we’re going down those roads — those economic ramifications are going to have to be shared by all of the relevant parties. You want to work less, usually you get paid less. But we are prepared to discuss the schedule issues and make proposals that are responsive to the ones that we’ve received from the MLBPA.”

Most concerning (for players) however, would be the question of player salaries. As Manfred said, the idea of cutting a season short would mean the idea that players will be paid less — or give back salary — would be a fairly damning idea to the MLBPA. The idea already has Players Association president Tony Clark on the defensive. "I don't agree that there would need to be a discussion about a loss of salary or a rollback of salaries," Clark said, according to the AP. "If there is a lessening of the games and we put players in the position where playing whatever number of games are in that season, they're able to play, the value of every game goes up as well."

They would lose 5% of games so revenue would probably go down but they could add more playoff teams and make that money up

This is a proposal I could agree with... as long as it doesn't mean another playoff team but turn the WC game into a best of 3 series.

Thats 120 games, I don't think you could make that up in the playoffs.

I know right. He says don't increase ticket prices but we will keep salary the same. That said if any union can pull it off it will be the MLBPA

I say cut to 154 and bring back double headers and shorten the season by 2-3 weeks.

That's shortening the season 8 games. What the hell difference does that make?

Its 8 off days through a season, it makes a big difference when they play 7-9 game stretches at a time. Its not to shorten the season, its to provide more rest to the players.

Playoff gate revenue is significantly higher so if you add 1 team in each league and/or make wildcard round 3 games instead of 1 you could make up a good chunk of that revenue imo.

They should consider cutting the season by 162 games.

I feel basketball should reduce the schedule by 82 games at least as well
