Old farts like me will remember this guy, 6-7, outstanding basketball player for Ohio State who turned to baseball, and when he hit a ball it flat stayed hit.

Frank Howard dies at 87

This ain’t a really good clip but here’s one of him hitting a ball over the left field roof in Tiger Stadium off Mickey Lolich.

Long home run in Detroit

He once got into it with the fans in Detroit( I think) and told them " I'll take you big guys one at a time. You little guys- you can all come at once".

He was the supreme slugger. He wouldn’t just hit the ball, he would crush it.

My Grandpa and Frank were Co-Captains of the 57-58 Ohio State basketball team together and have always been close friends. Got to meet him at Yankees Spring training when I was younger and remember being shocked how tall he actually was standing next to my GP. RIP Frank

May he RIP. He was with the Phillies who made a disparaging remark to Richie Allen in either 1963 or 1964 (I think it was 1964), caused a fight. Allen was Rookie of the Year in 1964, Frank Howard was traded to the Senators.

Howard was a good player. Tough.

Richie Allen was great. Philly fans booed him mercilessly because of the Howard trade. Not his fault. I hope Allen makes it to the HOF.

No that was Frank Thomas (the first one not Big Hurt) who passed earlier this year.

From Wikipedia

On July 3, 1965, Thomas got into a fight with Richie Allen, in which he hit Allen with a bat in the shoulder. After that night's game, the Phillies placed Thomas on irrevocable waivers.[16] He was purchased by the Houston Astros from the Phillies on July 10, 1965.[17] While the Phillies prohibited Allen from telling his side of the story, there was no restriction on Thomas, who made it seem that Allen's behavior had gotten Thomas released.[18] The Astros traded Thomas to Braves for a player to be named later (Mickey Sinnerud) in September 1965.[19][20]
