According to the Chronicle, O'Brien wanted Mallett to stay in Houston, but Smith pushed to let Mallett join the team so that Brian Hoyer would have a capable backup. Mallett was named the Texans' starting quarterback in Week 2 after Hoyer struggled in the season opener against the Kansas City Chiefs.

quote:

The Mallett saga reflects deeper issues in the Texans' organization. O'Brien is in just his second season with the Texans and appears to already be at odds with his front office. The Texans are in the midst of a disastrous season, starting 2-5 after going 9-7 last season. They were losing 41-0 at halftime to the Dolphins on Sunday before coming back to lose by the misleading score of 44-26.

Fire Rick

What good is a backup if he can't consistently show the hell up? Whether it's on the team plane or practice?

Fire everybody. I like O'Brien a lot actually, especially after Hard Knocks, but this team has taken a turn for the worst and right now they are operating on Browns/Jags/Raiders levels of dysfunction.

Bill O'Brien is a good coach. Sucks to see that the front office is getting in his way. He gained a lot of respect from me from the way he handled Penn State, and what I learned about him personally from Hard Knocks.

Bad call by Rick Smith. I bet BOB dropped some F bombs when Smith vetoed that move.

It's tough because I think O Brien could do a good job on a normal team, but you might be right. I still don't understand how Smith kept his job after the 2-14 debacle and Kubiak getting fired. Isn't he close friends with Cal McNair or something?

No doubt. Watching Hard Knocks it's easy to see why guys would be motivated to play for him too. It's sad that the front office is hamstringing him with a headcase like Mallett. Talk about creating a shitty culture for your team.

I really do think that O'Brien is a good coach also, I just think Houston is such a dumpster fire right now on so many levels of the organization that there isn't much he can do.

Bob McNair needs to quit being so damn loyal to Rick Smith and let his arse go along with everyone else in the scouting department.

It's inexcusable that in the 13 years of the franchise we are yet to have a true franchise QB and have had top 10 picks just about every year. I'm just tired of every single year having the same complaints and nothing changing.

ETA: If you listen to 790 AM all the people calling in the past two days and melting have been pretty entertaining radio, btw.

Heard something on sports radio today. It would have been a bad look for O'Brien to go to Miami with one QB. If hoyer went down and Lechler had to trot out there we would be roasting Bill for being a hotheaded arse clown who can't keep emotions in check. Even to the detriment of the team.

Now I have no qualms about Rick being shite canned. Especially if they ar not blowing up phone lines trying to get anybody else for a back up.

So with this coming out, they have no choice but to let him go now right?

They have Zac Dysert on the practice squad, what's the rule on when they have to declare who is dressing for the game?

i think BO'B is a good coach, but this mess falls at his feet. hes completely butchered this years QB situation. last years wasnt pretty either, but fitzpatrick played great once getting another shot after being benched.

and neither rick smith nor bill can hide from the fact they have not invested in the QB sufficiently. fitzpatrick, hoyer, mallett, drafted tom savage. drafted clowney instead of a QB. its definitely a shitshow

Assuming they finish 4-12 or 5-11 or something, which looks very likely, I don't see how Smith could keep his job. There will be a lot of empty seats next year if he does

Fitzmagic looks like Tom Brady compared to the two QB's this year.

That's true. And Hoyer got hit hard early on his shoulder. If Lechler would have been in there for that arse raping the dolphins put on them, BOB would have looked terrible. It looks bad enough already.

They should trade Mallett to the Steelers for Dogkiller. Both teams get rid of a problem.

Or for a 7th round pick.

Then the Steelers could have methhead, dogkiller and rapist all together.
