Reserve has had teams that could beat any team in Louisiana reguardless of class in the past. Three years ago was a prime example of this with Demond Carter, Kevin Branch, and Ed McCain. And yes, Monticello isn't very good, but most of the teams who make the playoffs in class C who are a 25-32 seed are god awful.

Oh, and Reserve only played their starters for the first quarter in this game.

Will the media pick up this story and try to get Byrd fired like they did to that girl's team coach?

No, the starters only played the 1st quarter.

The media can conveniently ignore that fact and emphasize that the starters PLAYED THE ENTIRE FIRST QUARTER!!! The poor kids from Monticello will need years of therapy to recover from this traumatic experience. Monticello will probably have to cancel school this week to recover.

I bet Monticello doesn't even care except for the players.

Reserve has always been a powerhouse in Class C basketball. Not uncommon at all for them to have a handful of players from other parts of the state and even other countries.

i politely disagree.

they are good.

but just b/c they like running up the score on teams doesn't make them great, and yes i know they've beaten some good teams in this state in the past.

they would never win the 5A or 4A state championship.

so they played their starters for the first quarter, but did they ever stop pressing the entire game, b/c i'm sure they pressed or played overlly aggressive on defense for the full 32 minutes.

i played reserve 8 years ago in a tourney and they beat a team by 68 the game before they played us, so we did the same to them when they played us and we tried to embarrass them as much as possible for their lack of class and we beat them by 48.
you could say we didnt' show class or you could say we were trying to teach them a lesson, but they have never played us again or gone to that tournament after that, b/c they pissed a lot of coaches off at that tournament.

Three years ago I think Reserve was the best team in the state. They were like 40-3 and they played the toughest schedule in the state.

Hell I played at a 1-A school with an all white starting five and we beat RC by 15-20 in a tournament in 2006.

Monticello did not even belong in the playoffs. They were winless on the year and only were allowed in because they only had 2 teams in their district. The first and second place teams in every district gets an automatic spot in the playoffs. The coach should have declined the invitation and let one of the 8-10 win teams they jumped in the power rankings get in the playoffs.

I think you might have to pay a fine if you decline a playoff invitation.

I think RC's best run was from 01-to around 05. D-1 player on those teams..can't remember the kids name.

You do, but often times it's cheaper than the travel expense.

thats just ignorant. they may very well have the best team in the state next year with cedric jenkins, derek taylor, and ricardo gathers all coming back.

a few years ago it was considered an upset when dwight howards team beat them in a national tournament.

this year they were 12-2 against 5A, with wins over jesuit and st thomas more who are both top 10 seeds in 5A. stm is a legitimate threat to win 5A. and they played most of this year without ricardo gathers, their best big man. they are 5-1 against 4A this year. they also beat st thomas aquinas, the number 2 seed in 2A by 22 on their sta. sta has beaten numerous 5A teams this year themselves, including #2 seed ouachita.

they wouldnt win 5a or 4a every year, but to say they would never do it is just stupid.

I think b and c may be excluded from this fwiw. C especially...in girls ball if you want to be in the playoffs you can...because some schools just don't want to go get blew out in first round and pay the $$
