Replacing the Georgia Dome is ridiculous. It is a perfectly functional dome that is only about twenty years old. But it is clearly going to happen and this story is just Blank's way of trying to get the taxpayers to fund more of the cost of the new stadium. The whole thing is an absolute waste.

And of course there is only about a 1% chance of the new LA team coming from Atlanta. Personally I think the Raiders make the most sense. They are already in California and used to be in LA. They have possibly the worst stadium in the NFL and their attendance has been among the lowest for several years.

Jacksonville was really struggling a few years ago, but they have new ownership and their attendance has improved. They are also making a push to be one of the teams that plays in London regularly.

Same can be said for:

Texas Stadium
Silverdome
Metrodome (in 2016)

In 2016, the Georgia Dome will be 25 years old and one of two stadiums left with a tarp roof.

All of those stadiums were used for 30-40 years. Georgia Dome isn't even at 25 yet.

Also, I'm pretty sure Jerry paid for the Jerry Dome himself, correct? If a billionaire wants to fund a new building I still think it is wasteful, but it is his choice, so its cool.

Were the stadiums that replaced the other two privately or publicly funded?

No.

quote:

Originally estimated to cost $650 million, the stadium's current construction cost was $1.15 billion,[18] making it one of the most expensive sports venues ever built. To aid Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones in paying the construction costs of the new stadium, Arlington voters approved the increase of the city's sales tax by 0.5 percent, the hotel occupancy tax by 2 percent, and car rental tax by 5 percent. The City of Arlington provided over $325 million (including interest) in bonds as funding,[18][19] and Jones covered any cost overruns. Also, the NFL provided the Cowboys with an additional $150 million loan, as per their policy for facilitating financing for the construction of new stadiums.

Would be awful for Atlanta - should not happen. I hate suburban stadiums.

Doraville isn't suburbia. While it's not downtown, the stadium would still be inside the perimeter with easy access to everyone on the northside who lives OTP.

How close is it to the Doraville MARTA stop?

You OTP people need to learn that mass transit is an asset.

Maybe 200 feet.

Problem is that it still takes a damn hour to get to the dome on Marta from the top end. By the time you sit through 10 stops to get to the Five Points station, get off the train to get on another one. I can drive to the dome quicker than taking Marta.
