The Jets apparently want Kirk Cousins. They apparently want him badly enough that they’re willing to break the bank for him.

According to Rich Cimini of ESPN.com, the Jets are “willing to pay whatever it takes” to get him.

This report comes amid a belief that the Jets may be willing to fully guarantee Cousins’ deal. The notion of paying “whatever it takes” becomes far more open-ended than that, especially since there’s no way of knowing what it will take until knowing what another team will pay.

If there’s at least one other team willing to make a similar commitment, the end result could be an auction that drives the market well north of $30 million per year.

That’s a pretty bad negotiation tactic

Kirk Cousins is going to finish his career with the most unearned money in NFL history, all thanks to this miserable QB market

Nobody in NFL should be getting paid about $2 mil for one game.

Am I the only one that thinks Kirk Cousins is completely average at best and not worth this much money?

He's above average to good but shouldn't be the highest paid player in history. Falcons better get Ryan's extension done before Cousins signs.

No - but competent QBs are valued highly in the NFL.

I get that and understand average is unfortunately rare at the position.

That much money for a guy who's main qualification is "he's not shitty" is just nuts to me.

This isn't a Saints/Falcons thing at all but a legitimate question. Do you think Ryan is elite enough to carry a franchise while making north of 30m? Feel like you'd have to kill it in the draft.

He was top 10 in yards and TDS last year. When you take away Brady/Rivers/ben/brees who prob have 2-3 years each left then he’s top 5 potentially by 2020.

He was 3rd in total yards 2 seasons ago.

I think he is better than people give him credit for

Fair enough. He was also 15th in QBR.

And we don't know how good new QBs entering the league will be in the next 2-3 years either.

Watson, Mahomes, college kids, etc. could all surpass him as well. And you've still got Luck, Cam, Dak, Carr, Jameis, (Mariota?), etc.

I'm not saying he's bad, by any means.
I guess its just crazy to me how much money that guy is going to get.

I'd take Wilson over all of the above

How did we get to the point where next man up becomes the highest paid? Think about this — Aaron Rodgers is the 8th highest paid QB. Drew Brees is the only other comparable QB paid more than him, and Brees is 5th.

Will someone offer Brees? or is it a foregone conclusion he’s staying

And Wilson, which was totally just me forgetting him.

I'd take a healthy Luck, then Wilson probably.

He is an above average QB and the fact that those NEVER hit FA makes him a top 5 money guy automatically.
