Hindsight is always 20/20

You can't blame the Texans for the mouthwatering idea of having Watt on one side and Clowney on the other rushing the passer. Mack would have been the smarter choice, but it's over now

Yes you can blame the Texans for drafting a dude who had possible the worst regression ever from his sophomore to junior season.

If you draft a pass rusher who put 3 sacks in a season you deserve what you get.

The talk of his motivational issues have nothing to do with the fact that he hurt his knee and got surgery, what this topic is about.

This could easily be Mack hurt if he were a Texan.

If that were the case Mel wouldn't have had to beg teams to draft Jimmy Clausen for 5 hours in 06. Having Clowney over Mack predraft isn't an ESPN creation. If Clowney wasn't injured he and Watt would be a devastating combo.

Oh, that's makes it ok then. IF he wasnt injured (which he was his entire senior year) and IF he had the work ethic, THEN they would be on to something. As if Mack/Watt wouldnt be a devastating combo...

This. It's not as if there is some huge dropoff in talent between the two. Mack had all the measurables as well. Pepole are making it sound like this was a no-brainer to take Clowney when it was so far from that.

As of late January, Clowney could bear no weight on his knee.

Why is this a big deal? He had surgery in mid December and you aren't supposed to bear weight on a microfracture surgery for at least 6 weeks. The GM and Coach said his rehab was right where they thought it would be yesterday.

This thread is hilarious. Clowney was the unanimous choice at No. 1. Nobody criticised the Texans for drafting who was seen as a sure thing.

Where were these critics when he was drafted? Amazing how much that bandwagon has grown. Probably the same tards who thought the Texans were totes stupid for passing on Reggie Bush in 2006, but then spent his career expressing their disappointment in him.

Uhh there was a good bit of uncertainty regarding clowney and a good sized faction of people that thought Mack was the better pick

Right. Clowney, who had showed signs of dominance in the SEC, wasn't viewed as a safer choice than a guy from Buffalo.

A guy with work ethic issues, injury history and production that didn't match his talent

Vs

A monster linebacker with scheme versatility...from a small school.

Clowney never dominated the sec. He had a good game or a good play every once in awhile but with him it was always about potential. His junior year at SC was a total joke. There were lots of people who said the Texans should take Mack

If that was the truth, why did Mack last until the 5th pick?

Lions drafted Ezekiel Ansah in the top 5 and he had four sacks in his college career. He has been pretty good so far.
