magic is a boss and may have an argument for better player than MJ, but he played in a much more wide open era
yes, defenses fouled harder, but defense was much simpler and teams ran more fast breaks and shot it more

Right now if you rank those four guys Lebron is fourth. But, he has a lot of years ahead of him. He has a lot of prime years still ahead of him. He could end up the best ever, we will have to wait and see what he achieves and how long he plays.

explain please. Are you disagreeing with my top 20 ranking or the fact that I made fun of Verlandertroll for saying he is Top 7 of all time and everyone doesn't know shite?
No, I'd definitely say as of NOW hes in the top 20.
But comparing him to Bird, Magic, Shaq, etc... right now is just stupid.
If he wins it this year, he will have ONE. ONE CHAMPIONSHIP.
Lets slow down the comparisons here...

I agree. I'd still take Magic over LeBron all day and twice on Sunday. He'd dominate today and with todays coaching he'd be better.

You get whoever you want for one year, and I'll take a Prime Shaq over either.

I feel you, I wont have him higher for several reasons, but championships aren't the end all, just the tie breaker. There are guys without championships that I have higher.

oh i didn't even entertain shaq v. lebron
shaq in his prime was a FORCE
*ETA: my love of shaq has nothing to do with LSU. i didn't follow LSU during his college career at all and don't even link shaq with LSU in my head, honestly.

That's fine. I'd take prime Kareem over Shaq, but yes Prime Shaq is still the best thing we've seen since the Bulls dynasty.

I personally think Lebron is a better offensive player than Magic.
But, even if I concede that to you,t he difference is not THAT big.
But, the difference between Lebron and Magic on the defensive side of the ball is absolutely huge, and IMO, very easily makes up for my concession on the offensive side of the ball.

Imagine if Lebron played in the 80s where defense was a rarity.
Examples:
1986:
League FG%: 48.7%
League ppg: 110.2
League Pace: 102.1
2012:
League FG%: .448
League ppg: 96.3
League Pace: 91.3
Imagine Lebron playing in a league THAT much more offensively oriented. Averaging 35 points per game on 54% from the field and 10 assists isn't at all out of the question.
Magic's numbers in today's NBA with offenses how they are would drop.

If he wins a couple titles in the next 5 years to shut up the championship arguments, I'm not sure how you couldn't put his peak in the elite elite.
People seem to have a hard time with dislike and objectivity. They aren't mutually exclusive.

It's pretty simple. You got to win championships to be considered on of the greatest. Lebron needs at least 3 to 4 rings before you can even mention him with Bird/Magic/Kobe.

MJ is the ONLY player to ever have a peak like Lebron.
He just is.
Bird and Magic NEVER played on the level Lebron has this year, regular season and playoffs. Not sustained for an entire year. THey quite simply did not do so.

And furthermore, it's the whole "everything was better in my day" mentality, IMO.
The nostalgia of Bird and Magic is clouding the judgment. They were great, no doubt. Magic is a top 2 or 3 of all time. BUt his peak was never as good as Lebron, if you factor offense AND defense.
People can say I'm just pro-Lebron and this and that, when in reality, I'm pro-production/efficiency, and mix in a little defense. That's about it.

That's silly.
Tony Parker, 2nd best PG of all time and better than Isaiah Thomas?
Yes or no.
3 titles, 1 Finals MVP.
You can't use the argument for one guy, and against another guy.

Obviously not.
Just because you win championships does't make you great. But you've got to win championships to be considered one of the greatest ever in your sport. Especially in basketball where one or two players can make an entire team. If Lebron only wins one or two titles, you can't mention his name as one of the greatest

Yeah it is. Below the rim, Magic's vision facilitating is unmatched save maybe Nash. Could also score whenever he wanted to

I disagree here, Magic skill set would succeed in any era and if the game has better shooters now (as it is being claimed) his numbers only go up. Also, if Magic was privy to today's coaching and training that LeBron is he'd be even more dominant than he was.
