Rae Carruth's son 16 years later

Sad but also uplifting article that was linked on Deadpsin earlier. LINK
He's doing quite well, all things considered (his mom being shot while pregnant, being born 10 weeks premature). Has cerebral palsy and definitely needs the care of others, but he can walk with assistance, speak with a basic vocabulary, and perform some daily functions unaided.
Amazing that his dad is the only one of the four people who went to jail over this who has never apologized to the mom of Cherica Adams.
She seems to be an unbelievably patient woman who is largely responsible for his son turning out better than anyone would have guessed.

He seems like an extremely happy guy, mostly because everyone around him treats him with kindness. Doesn't seem as if he understands what exactly happened to either of his parents.
I was surprised that Carruth may be released in just 2-3 years. Seems like a true sociopath with no emotions.

My text box disappeared on my phone and it autocorrected to that string of hahahahah and submitted. Meant to say "ha yeah he does."

HBO Real Sports did a really nice piece on him and his grandmother a year or two ago. Worth the watch if anyone has HBO GO, (im assuming it is on there)

God, Rae Carruth is a POS.

Is he wearing a Panthers hat?

There was a good SI article on this a few years ago. How in the hell could you do that to your child? That bastard should never be set free. I'm glad the kid looks just his father. You'd think it would bother the piss out of Carruth that he looks like him and it is a reminder of what he did, but that POS probably could give two shites less.

Yep, looks like the team still has a relationship with him and his grandmother. He has been to some games, toured the locker room, and met Steve Smith when he was on the team.

His Grandmother is a saint. For someone to have been through all of that, take on her special needs grandson, and still talk about possibly allowing Carruth back in his life is incredible. Hopefully this kid will still have someone to care for him after she's gone.

I don't understand how the hell he only got 24 years

The intricacies of the judicial system...
This picture makes me happy but very sad at the same time. As a Panthers fan since year 1 I remember this story vividly. Never forgot about ole Rae-Rae..but had forgotten about his son. Glad to see he is doing as well as can be. His grandmother is a saint.

Fricking tPOS. That's just a terrible story. At least that other POS had a conscience and testified against him. The grandma is awesome. What a lovely soul.
