This morning at Querbes we were playing with heavy fog. On one hole I hit a drive and lost sight of it almost immediately. My partners also lost sight of it. I was hitting a Noodle 2.

About 175 yards down the fairway we came upon a ball. It was a Noodle 2. So I hit it and saw it land on the green. 50 yards later we came upon another ball. It was a Noodle 2. The balls were identical.

What should be done?

Mark your ball with distinguishing marks before the round.

You should start putting an identifying mark on your ball.

Never play the same number ball when hitting a provisional. The fact that you hit the first #2 you saw, made that the ball in play.

You play the 2nd ball, take the best result of the two shots you played, and have some whiskey. Beer if it's summer time, obviously.

Your ball should be marked and identified by your playing partner before the round.

Wrong ball is a two stroke penalty in stroke play or loss of hole in match play.

I was not hitting a provisional. I was convinced it was my ball. What are the odds that two Noodle 2 balls are on the same fairway? One of them was obviously lost last night. The other was mine.

Hey, I was driving with a 5 hybrid. I use the term 'drive' for anything off the tee box.

So which ball do you think was yours?

Never say "what are the chances".....because that's not covered in the rule book

Identify the ball without touching it, hit the next shot from where it lies.

Ok so you hit a 5 hybrid. How far can you hit a 5 hybrid? 175 or 225?

He wouldn't be able to tell which was which even when looking at them side by side in his hands.

That's the problem.

I think the problem was letting those old baws tee off in the fog.

That could get really dangerous.

We had a discussion after I hit the first ball. This was a par 4 and my second shot was about 20 feet from the pin so I was happy.

When we discovered my second ball I said "Guys, I hit that drive more than 175. Just from the feel. It was solid. 225 is more likely."

They agreed that my first shot is void and I can take my chances on the second. I hit the second shot and it landed about 15 feet from the pin.

BTW, for you Shreveport golfers, Querbes is really losing business. No one was out there and it's traditionally the busiest course in Shreveport/Bossier.

Temp was 56 but I've seen it busy in cool weather.
