I don't know where you live brah, but it seems your college team is great, so you think it's that sport that's great opposed to just the team? Do you have connections to specific pro teams? I think if you lived in a city with a couple pro teams, you'd have more interest. Then again, Alabama has been on an unprecedented run the last 7 years or so. Maybe you're spoiled into thinking all your pro teams should be as dominate when it's completely unrealistic.
When the Astros started to STTD in the late 2000s, I lost interest in baseball as a whole, a kid who grew up loving baseball. If my team were good, maybe I would have stuck around and cared for the whole
And are you telling me you enjoy college (Alabama?) basketball to pro? Or is your taste in pro sports more football specific? Bc I have a hard time believing anyone on the planet thinks Alabama basketball is better than the NBA

What's the cause?
The hyper-quantification of strategy. The trend is toward moneyball style efficiency in all sports, which comes at the cost of some of the artistry involved in sports that is one of the two reasons people love sports in the first place (the other is competition).

i can't speak for the MLB, but the NBA has not declined, brah
I'm quite sure MLB, the NBA, and the NFL are all in better positiones than they were 20 years ago. Hell 20 years ago there was a work stoppage that cancelled the World Series

what an original thread...the NFL sucks blah, blah, blah. Yet it's still #1 and that drives CFB fans insane
and lmao at CBB being better than the NBA. CBB is the worst it's ever been.

You're watching the wrong professional sports.

I watch any nfl game I can, I can't remotely say that about college.

The NBA is so much more entertaining than college basketball

Sure, they are all doing better as businesses, but it's also why they aren't as entertaining. Everything is a lot safer and more codified now. True freaks and weirdos have been purged from the games and stylistically, teams just don't take as much risk. Everyone is trying to be as broadly appealing as possible, which makes everyone in competition to be the most boring.
Renegade leagues could never happen now, there's too much money required, but they were all so much damn fun.

You know what I am saying. The knicks have gotten a lot of national play despite not being very good for a long time.
This year, I don't think they have gotten as much television time.

I'm more interested in the NFL than ever before

this affects CFB as well. It's not nearly as bad as the NFL right now, but I do think it's headed that way.

I don't know if it's true or not, but I feel like I see way less penalties watching LSU games than I do watching Saints games (and other NFL games).

maybe old people and their love of mythology, being from simpler times and all. younger generations are more materialistic in their lives (and i mean in terms of how they see the world, as in not religious or prone to mythology) and more data-driven. you can call this a function of being over-exposed to humanity from such an early age (via technology like the internet or online gaming)
the "barber shop debate" is a dying thing in general. people don't guess who was in that movie and then argue about it. you simply go to your phone, type it in, and get an answer. the world is becoming much more fact/data-driven in general

i'd argue that this is not true in the NFL. over the past 20 years, coaches have realized that passing the ball isn't as high-risk as they were once raised to believe, which has opened up the game and added more styles
throw in some zone-read stuff and you get even more wrinkles

I disagree. NFL is still pretty awesome, though I'm on the fence about the safety rules. The NBA is better than ever, imo. There is more talent than there ever has been. MLB? Still great to me.

If you're in the business of entertainment, and you're thriving as a business, it means you're succeeding at entertaining. Granted, of course you may not appeal to everyone and that's to be expected. Some individual people may hate the NBA, NFL, etc. now vs what it once was. Some of that may be nostalgia some of it may be legitimate distaste with style changes or rule changes. But objective data shows that these leagues are succeeding at entertaining

It's mainly just a US thing for me. I watch a bunch of overseas professional rugby matches. I like European soccer too if there is no rugby on.

I think mostly, its college baseball and basketball thats been all downhill.

I agree that MLB is obviously declining, and I honestly think the NFL has taken a small step back this year as well.
I'm not a huge NBA fan until the playoffs, but that league is on the upswing not the down.

My passion for the NFL has fallen a bit...but I still subscribe to the Sunday Ticket.
