Will be interested to see this announcement on Monday.
LINK
Next week, Pro Rugby North America is expected to outline plans for a new professional rugby competition in the USA.
The competition was expected to include USA and Canadian teams, but apparently will be only US-based teams for 2016. The company running the league - PRO Rugby North America - is headed up Douglas Schoninger out of New York City.
Over the next few weeks details on teams, coaches, internet television coverage, and scheduling will be publicized.
The league has the blessing of World Rugby and USA Rugby, and launched its Facebook page this week.

After more than a year of research and planning, we at PRO Rugby will be announcing our plans for Professional 15-a-side Rugby Union in North America on Monday, November 9th. This last year has been an exciting time for me and I am looking forward to sharing our vision with the rugby community.
Our announcement on Monday will be a framework of how PRO Rugby will develop, and is only the first step in what we believe will be an exciting journey. We intend to be collaborative, and will include you, the rugby community, right from the start. As we all know, rugby is unique in sports, and particularly in American sports. We appreciate both the game, and its core values, and are mindful of our custodial responsibility in growing our game together.
Thank you for your past support, and I look forward to building PRO Rugby with all of you.
Have a great weekend.
Doug Schoninger, CEO PRO Rugby

off topic- I know there are a couple different types of rugby was the one that Jarryd Hayne played the same one that had the World Cup that just finished?

Hayne played League, not Union.
My guess is that most of the cities will be in the West with a few on the East Coast.

If I was making guesses, I would bet on places with MLS stadiums as hosting sites.
NY (cannot be ignored), Boston (Irish), Philly (proven with games there), DC (large expat community) seem to be no brainers for the East Coast. They will look to keep costs down, so I cannot imagine much outside of this.
I would consider Pittsburgh, Columbus and if you are stretching, Chicago.
Or I could see East Coast/West Coast conferences.

Monday's press release was a bit anitclimatic. No real new information. Luckily TIAR was able to leak some info such as a few confirmed cities.
San Fran
Sacramento
Denver
Philly
That leaves 2 cities left to be named. Id be expecting both to be named from New England. For some reason, even with all the failed attempts at a pro league, Im expecting this one to be the one.
Year 2 expansions will include a Canadian team and hopefully one in Dallas or Houston.

As far as I know, and i'm by no means a super knowledgeable person on Rugby, but there's only one actual type of Rugby. It's just like soccer. There are variations of rugby, like you may hear of Australian Rules football, or Rugby 7's, but those are just different variations of the sport, just like indoor soccer or beach soccer.
The Rugby World Cup is only for the normal variation of Rugby, like how the Fifa World Cup is only for the normal variation of soccer.

There are 2 different types of Rugby.
Rugby League, which is what Haynes played and Rugby Union, the more popular version played in the Rugby World Cup. Rugby League have their own version of the Rugby World Cup and play by completely different rules.

Vegas didn't make the cut?
Posted on 11/10/15 at 4:26 pm to TN Bhoy
Not initially. I would assume the big market areas would be selected first.
Not sure how Vegas could support a team by themselves. The 7s tournament attendance there is helped by fans not from Vegas.

Have to assume the other 2 cities are NY and Boston.
I would like to see a Santa Monica/LA team along with Denver, Chicago, DC and Houston in the near future.
But I do like they are taking a slow approach.
Would assume Canada would get Vancouver and Toronto as expansion, as those have been the traditional Canadian hotbeds.

Absolutely. Though I would prefer Dallas to Houston for strictly personal reasons. :) The slow approach is what leads me to believe this is the real deal. Very exciting.
Toronto was supposed to be the Canadian team had Rugby Canada agreed to a team this spring.

not even close
Aussie Rules is a totally different game.
Rugby Union, League and 7's are all different codes.
There is WC for all three codes.

There's a few rugby threads on this board, and most have full lenght games posted.
It's easy to learn the differences.

I will be interested to see the increase in HS/youth rugby growth in the US after this pro league goes live.
