People that constantly argue Peyton vs. Manning are completely missing the point. We are lucky to see two of the best football players to ever step on the same field compete against eachother.

Well said.

However, Peyton has had a career of throwing to elite receiving corps.

Or can you say Peyton made most of his receivers? Decker/Thomas were average with tebow, they became top at their position with manning. Julius Thomas is to Manning what Jimmy Graham is to Brees is he not?

Wayne/Harrison - Manning were probably equal value and benefited from each other for a decade.

Pierre Garcon was a 6th round pick. Austin Collie was a 4th round pick and was always concussed. Dallas clark had 3 great years? all of his other numbers were average so he wasn't like he was top 2 TE material through his indy tenure. Brandon Stokley had his best season in indy in '04(?) and was average everywhere else.

Manning benefited that he had two consistent receivers for a decade whereas Brady didn't. That's one reason you can defend manning had better numbers.

They both have had a few great players to throw to, but of course people just assume Peyton has had better

What happened to Austin Collie and Dallas Clark after Peyton left? No one had ever heard of Julius Thomas, Eric Decker was just "another receiver".

They both make their receivers better, and they both have had great players throughout their careers. Peyton has had Marvin and Reggie, Brady has had Moss, Welker, and Gronk.

For what it's worth, Brady's and Manning's career playoff statistics are fairly comparable. Brady's career postseason passer rating is 87.2. Manning's is 88.6.

He has.

Clark, Wayne, Harrison, Edgerrin James...all first round picks. And he spent at least 7 years with each of them.

Brady didn't get elite receivers until Moss and Welker came around, 6 years into his career.

Yea, those 4 guys were great with Manning. I was going more towards the "these 2 QBs make those players great" angle. And they both have done that with other guys no one has heard of

Ouch.

Offense wins games now. Why don't you take a look at their passing yards, total yards, scoring offense, and overall record to see who the better team is.

In Brady's 3 Super Bowl victories, his number one WR was Deion Branch. Let that sink in.

Who's fault was that? New England drafted hard on offensive players from round 2-4 compared to indy. Indy hit on more successes, most will give the credit to manning for that one.

New England since 2000 has drafted 5 players (2 TE, 1 OG, 1 RB, and 1 OT) for the offensive side of the ball. Total 1st round picks from 2000-2013 were 13.
2001 - Richard Seymour (DT)
2002 - Daniel Graham (TE) - best seasons were 409 yards/4TD and 364 yards/7TD
2003 - Ty Warran (DT)
2004 - Vince Wilfork (DT)
2004 - Benjamin Watson (TE) - best season wasn't even in NE. Best NE season was 643 yards/3TDs
2005 - Logan Mankins (OG) - all pro
2006 - Laurence Maroney (RB) - 5 years in the league, best season was his first 2
2007 - Brandon Meriweather (S)
2008 - Jerod Mayo (LB)
2010 - Devin McCourty (CB)
2011 - Nate Solder (OT) - solid starter
2012 - Chandler Jones (DE)
2012 - Dont'a Hightower (LB)

Indy since 1999 has drafted 7 players (3 RBs, 2 WR, 1 TE, and 1 OT) for the offensive side of the ball. Total 1st round picks from 1999-2011 were 11.
1999 - Edgerrin James (RB) - great RB
2000 - Rob Morris (LB)
2001 - Reggie Wayne (WR) - great receiver
2002 - Dwight Freeney (DE)
2003 - Dallas Clark (TE) - best year was 2008 and 2009 seasons
2005 - Marlin Jackson (CB)
2006 - Joseph Addai (RB) - 2 or 3 good seasons
2007 - Anthony Gonzalez (WR) - first 2 okay years in indy and injury bug, and done.
2009 - Donald Brown (RB) - was never a break out player. he's had average seasons at best.
2010 - Jerry Hughes (DE)
2011 - Anthony Castonzo (OT) - never played for manning

Lets dig through the draft again, spread to top 4 rounds and see what offensive players they drafted.

NE (25 offensive players from 2000-2013)
JR Redmond - RB (00-3rd)
Greg Randall - OT (00-4th)
Matt Light - OT (01-2nd)
Kenyatta Jones - OT (01-4th)
Jabari Holloway - TE (01-4th)
Deion Branch - WR (02-2nd)
Rohan Davey - QB (02-4th)
Bethel Johnson - WR (03-2nd)
Cedric Cobbs - RB (04-4th)
Nick Kaczur - OT (05-3rd)
Chad Jackson - WR (06-2nd)
David Thomas - TE (06-3rd)
Kevin O'Connell - QB (08-3rd)
Sebastian Vollmer - OT (09-2nd)
Brandon Tate - WR (09-3rd)
Rich Ohrnberger - OG (09-4th)
Garrett Mills - FB (11-4th)
Rob Gronkowski - TE (10-2nd)
Taylor Price - WR (10-3rd)
Aaron Hernandez - TE (10-4th)
Shane Vereen - RB (11-2nd)
Stevan Ridley - RB (11-3rd)
Ryan Mallett - QB (11-3rd)
Aaron Dobson - WR (13-2nd)
Josh Boyce - WR (13-4th)

Indy (14 offensive players from 98-11)
Jerome Pathon - WR (98-2nd)
E.G. Green - WR (98-3rd)
Steve McKinney - OG (98-4th)
Brandon Burlsworth - OG (99-3rd)
Ryan Diem - OT (01-4th)
Steve Sciullo - OG (03-4th)
Ben Hartsock - TE (04-3rd)
Dylan Gandy - OG (05-4th)
Tony Ugoh - OT (07-2nd)
Mike Pollak - C (08-2nd)
Jacob Tamme - TE (08-4th)
Austin Collie - WR (09-4th)
Jacques McClendon - OG (10-4th)
Benjamin Ijalana - OT (11-2nd) - never played w/ manning

ETA: Definitely wasn't from a lack of trying to build offensive players around Brady.

Total WR/TE/RB drafted during Brady's tenure in rounds 2-4: 15

Total WR/TE/RB drafted during Manning's tenure in rounds 2-4: 5

He actually had a solid #1 in 2001 with Troy Brown.

But yeah he won two other Super Bowls throwing to Deion Branch, David Patten and David Givens

Bill Cowher speakin troof

quote:

“We didn’t lose the game because of any 'Spygate,' because of them having any additional things,” Cowher told 93.7 The Fan on Wednesday. “[If] they’re guilty of anything they’re guilty of arrogance because they were told not to do something but it was something everybody does. They got caught doing it with a camera.”

quote:

“Stealing someone’s signals was a part of the game and everybody attempted to do that. We had people that always tried to steal signals,” said Cowher, whose 2004 team won 16 consecutive games before losing to the Patriots in the AFC title game. “What happened when we lost that game is they outplayed us. It had nothing to do with stealing signals or cheating or anything else.”

Mike Freeman asked eight NFL personnel men (including several scouts and one GM) one question, protected under the safety of anonymity. The question: Who is the better quarterback — Peyton Manning or Tom Brady?

quote:

Freeman reported that the results of his informal and unscientific poll overwhelmingly favored Brady, with seven of the eight participants choosing Brady.

Freeman asked them the same question but for last year, and the results were 6-2 in favor of Brady, whereas if it were five years ago, the group was split at 4-4.

Mind you, this is all coming after Manning set NFL records for passing yards and passing touchdowns, in the same season when Brady finished the season with his lowest touchdown total since 2006 and his worst completion percentage since 2003.

“Overall, there was a central theme among the voters: While Manning is a more physically gifted thrower, Brady is the better overall quarterback because he has done more with less,” Freeman wrote. “Please, do not read this as Manning bashing. It is not. In talking to an admittedly small pool of NFL team executives, there is awe at what Manning has done. It’s just that there is more awe at Brady’s accomplishments.”
