Poll: Do you support the Olympics? would you support if your state made a bid?

Olympics are about national pride, in America we all tune in for 4am curling during the winter olympics and 5am swim meets in the summer.
However, bidding on the Olympics and then paying for the structures to house these events cost money. Usually falls on the tax payer to finance these buildings. The summer Olympics in Atlanta cost tax payers 609 million.
So do you support the Olympics?
would you support if your state made a bid and you had to fund?

frick the Olympics. I wanna watch real sports, not see who can be the best at exercising.

I would love if Montana/Big Sky Resort put in a bid for the winters. Sadly, it would never fly here. Too many "Montana is full, go somewhere else" types in this state.

I really like the Olympics, would love if Canada or other cities around here would host. Good to attend or watch live.
No, I don't want my state for host the Olympics.

Definitely. Both Pittsburgh or Philly could host the games on a month's notice. Of course Philly would be a much better option.
Maybe Pittsburgh could get a better metro system out of it though- one that is actually useful

Get your own jokes. Stop stealing from tosh
If you don't like the Olympics you suck. I watch as much as possible. I'll even be at work streaming if I have to. I like summer Olympics more but winter is getting better.

I would be mad as hell if Louisiana made a bid to host the Olympics. Spend that money on something better than building a world class velodrome.
If the IOC weren't such a group of greedy old fricks, they would realize the best bet is just to rotate the games among 8-10 cities. That way, you don't have shite like people in London ponying up for an Olympic quality swimming facility, something that gets used maybe once a year or so.

used to like em, don't anymore ... would not want any state i live in to bid for them ... they're too expensive, the financial return is uncertain at best, and too many locals and businesses have to subjugate their interests/costs to the rules of the olympic committee ...

Honestly, I think the negative impact of the Olympics is overstated. what is bad is spending money like a drunken sailor with no future plan, but Sydney and London show you can have a longterm plan to repurpose the facilities (so did Atlanta, but that plan largely failed).
Here's a quick view at previous hosts: LINK /
London had a fourth of the budget of Beijing, and didn't do anything insane, and has used the money to help rebuild a depressed part of the city (Barcelona also benefited by the Olympics).
So, I wouldn't mind my city (Dallas) hosting, so long as it was a co-ordinated bid with Ft. Worth and Austin. And as long as there was a clear plan on what the facilities would look like in the future (and London's multipurpose warehouse for the lesser sports was a masterstroke: cheap and easy to turn into something else after the Games). But it's really a matter of sticking to the budget and the plan.
We could really use the public transportation rail lines they'd have to build...

They can have the Olympics yet still be fiscally responsible.

The state of Kentucky as a whole would have a hard time sustaining an Olympics, so I'd be against my own state hosting it. More than likely majority of the funding would have to come from my county and the taxpayers are having a hard enough time supporting the Yum Center downtown without an NBA team there. I enjoy the Olympics though.

Los Angeles already had an Olympics. The Soviets boycotted it.

I would love to see the reaction to the Olympics coming to Alabama

I'm a collegiate track athlete so my opinion is biased but i would love to have them.

The state of Louisiana wouldn't be able to support the Olympics imo. But I do enjoy watching them every four years. Especially the Winter Olympics.

Between Baton Rouge, New Orleans, and Lafayette, I think there are already enough stadiums.
You would have to spruce a lot of them up, but renovation is cheaper than construction.

Biggest problem for a Louisiana Summer Olympiad is the date. The Summer Olympics are typically held in July and August. That's dangerously close to the peak of hurricane season. It would help if you could convince the IOC to hold them in April. You would also need a major upgrade in levees and anti-hurricane infrastructure, because you don't want your new facilities to be trashed one year before the Olympics because there was a hurricane the year before.
Beyond that, I think we underestimate the quality and quantity of facilities that would be needed, as well as the hotel rooms and transportation infrastructure. All would need major upgrades and the IOC would probably insist that the great majority of events be held in the New Orleans metro area. You could probably get away with holding a few at LSU but that's it.

the infrastructure is where we would run into problems. Louis Armstrong isnt near big enough to handle the traffic and getting to and from the stadiums would be a nightmare. Also we'd still have to build a couple stadiums for things like swimming and track.
