Simple way: conference winners go to the playoffs.

yea leaving the pats out last year was really good and logical

who cares bout letting in the best teams to decide who is the best. i mean finding out who was the best isn't important

If you have an 8-team playoff #9 will complain but there's very little chance they have a case for being the best, or that they're undefeated.

With 12 teams there's zero chance of someone getting shafted. If you're #13 you lost a game somewhere and have nobody to blame but yourself.

stupid logic, and you're using BCS logic

each spot at a title is worth the others. it's an entitlement to play for the championship

the cut off will always mean as much to the first team left out. nothing you say will change that

the problem is as you add more teams and frick up college football, you open the argument up to more and more teams to bitch. CFB is very tiered, and each tier has many more teams within it

there's a big difference in 1 vs 5. there isn't much difference in 10-15

What?

they had a better record than some teams who made the playoffs, but they didn't win their division, so they were left out

and wins in the NFL are a lot more even, so you can judge teams by W/L without looking to SOS as hard

This would make it like NBA, NFL, etc. They don't bitch when they miss the playoffs; they just recognize that "we didn't play well enough to make the playoffs."

Thats a different beast in itself...in the NBA, there are 28 teams. Therefore everyone plays everyone atleast once and the playoff field is decided on records alone.

College football has 119 teams and it is impossible for everyone to play everyone so polls are needed to get an "accurate" ranking system.

Because of the human element in the polls, there will always be a disagreement somewhere down the road. Even if you had an 8 team playoff, the 9,10, and 11 ranked teams that likely have a similar record as the 7 and 8 seeds will cry.

Playoff system wont fix anything, just create room for more teams to complain.

No, infact I think CFB is the greatest sport we have with the most exciting regular season and best regular season. How many Hawks games have you watched so far this NBA season? How many Tuesday night games did you dvr? Ot maybe NBA fans don't really get into it until June when the never ending playoff start.

I much prefer watching every game I can during the cfb season because games like WVU/Pitt 2007 mattter. With a playoff it wouldn't

So you think college football should use records ONLY for the playoffs then right??? That'll go over really well.

I'm not being sarcastic. Teams have a right to bitch about march madness because there's no clear cut guidelines; it's left up to humans to pick the teams.

Good thing we're gonna take the top 8 records for youc CFB playoffs.

Fans everywhere are gonna LOVE that system.

And THIS, IMO, trumps EVERY reason to have a playoff.

The playoffs would probably be based on ranking for the at-large teams. The teams that don't make it will cry that they weren't ranked high enough and were left out just like they do now.

Plus the fact the regular season would be one or two games shorter. The supposedly increased revenue generated by the playoffs would not replace the lost revenue (at least for those teams with large ticket sales) if the team doesn't get in (ala LSU, Ohio State, UGA, etc.) Moreover, the supposedly increased revenue would probably be more evenly distributed among all 1A football conferences decreasing the take for current BCS conferences, making the system less financially attractive for them.

So with playoffs a school like LSU, at least when not in the playoffs, has fewer games during the season, gets less income, not to mention other negatives like the way playoffs affects the importance of winning a conference championship (becomes more like basketball and baseball, and not all that important), etc.
