When Magic Johnson and Jerry West call you the greatest Laker ever... the greatest player of the greatest basketball franchise ever... you're in the Top 10

Why are you laughing at that statement? You are aware that Jerry West is one of the greatest GM's and talent evaluators the game has ever seen.

You can pick and choose, but you're doing so to just fulfill the narrative in your mind that is already made up.

By the way, Kobe was considered the best in the league by a lot of people for a good stretch of years
He was also assumed to be the most clutch, then guys started tracking the data, and we saw how that turned out.

You could probably easily make the argument that some of the guys with the most drive are the guys not skilled enough or big enough and sit at the end of the bench and are fighting for a job and a good paycheck. Those dudes, I'm certain, have been some of the hardest working dudes in the NBA, but "drive" only gets assigned to guys who are good.

Nah, I am pretty sure it is the guys who repeatedly have stories brought up about their work ethic.

There is more than just statistics. Numbers should be used in conjunction with visual analysis, not exclusively. Even the biggest members of communities like SABR recognize the importance of context. Putting everything in a rate stat vacuum can be almost as blind as the stupid GOAT, LeQuit, Kobe, etc drivel.

You know there's like 15 other greats that agree with Shaq.

Basing it off the sixteen NBA players and superstars that said Kobe works harder than any player they have ever seen.
This is not what that article said, there weren't 16 NBA players and stars that said Kobe works harder...fwiw.

I'll concede I read the 1st 5 or 6, and I believe all but maybe 1 never had a quote from the guy saying Kobe works harder than any player they'd ever seen.

Ok, so you're on record, whoever Magic and West has as their top 10 is gospel, concrete, and can't be argued against, correct? They can't be wrong, if your top 10 differs, you change your top 10 to match theirs, correct?

If so, you do that, I'll pass. If not, that's why I laughed at it.

That doesn't even get into the obvious biases they'd have towards the Laker player.

Ah yea, because reporters are dying to report about that 12th guy on the bench who may or may not be on a team next year. You serious?

There is zero doubt in my mind that there are just as many guys at the end of the bench working just as hard as the elite guys, zero.

I'm not even trying to downplay it, but that's 2 out of 16, based on your quotes?

Just pointing out, you assigned something to 16 guys that 16 guys never said.

Just trying to have it stay factual.

Kobe was considered the best in the league for a while, an all time great, and is still in the gym everyday earlier than anyone else, and longer than anyone else.

That is it. Plain and simple. Argue around it all you want.

I'll assume you right on the gym stuff, and I agree with everything you've said here, not sure where you're going with that one lol.

Kind of like your point about the bench players who work hard. Yeah obviously they do, and I know where you are coming from about how they don't get media attention.

But Kobe was at the top of basketball and never ever did he stop trying to get better.

Kobe obviously works hard, super hard, probably one of the hardest workers ever. I think you guys may be missing my point here.

But when someone specifically says they know he has more drive than lebron, or any one guy, and saying otherwise means you don't know what you're talking about. I'm not even saying Lebron works as hard. All I am saying is no, that is not fact and we don't know who has more drive and stating anything definitively is just silly.
