Sad to hear it ended that way.

His dad went missing a couple of weeks ago. Billy asked for help finding him in a post round interview. He was found in Texas and said he was ok, but didn't say why he was there. Unfortunately this is the result.

That's so awful. You may want to include the original story in the OP for all that don't know, but I can't imagine how he feels right now. Prayers out to him.

Unfortunately, I wasn't surprised when I heard the news. Based on what happened a couple of weeks ago, it was apparent at least to me that he had some problems/issues.

Condolences to the Hurley family.

And some Richard Cranium downvoted the original post.

Not that any more proof was needed, but there are some seriously mentally ill phuckers posting in this forum.

I will never get this. In a thread like this the admins should be able to identify the loser and deal with said person. Sad!!!!!!!

One would think that would be relatively easy.

Willard Hurley Jr., the father of PGA Tour player Billy Hurley III, was found dead in Loudoun County, Va., from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Hurley III confirmed in a statement Thursday. Hurley III learned of his father’s death on Wednesday afternoon.

"I want to thank the PGA Tour, the greater golf media and all those who provided their support, prayers and encouragement," Hurley III said in the statement. "The PGA Tour community has always taken great care of us, and my family and I are very grateful for that. As soon as I am able, I will return to golf and will provide further comment."

A spokesman with the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office said the case remains under investigation as an apparent suicide.

Oh man that's tough to hear. I remember watching his interview after his round when all that went down. He was asking his dad to come home and that they all loved him. Damn that is sad.

I didn't downvote, but people commit suicide every day and this is a pretty much unknown athlete.

People who watch golf know the story. If you don't watch it, don't enter the thread.

While I agree he is relatively unknown, he became known to those who watch golf when he discussed this openly at an tourney he was playing in. And apparently he found out they found his dad alive while playing a round.

But suicide is nothing to snicker at or just shrug your shoulders because you don't know them personally.

It's very difficult for the families and friends involved.

Every suicide may not be post worthy, but we're in a Major with this news being fresh in the golf world. So, it's post worthy.

Hurley also served our country in the Navy, and was still able to find a way to play on the PGA Tour. I feel so bad for him.

I don't understand why people up vote stories about tragedies. Or like them on Facebook. Who likes this stuff?

Good point. Express your condolences and leave it at that.

I don't see how people get so butthurt over a tiny little up or downward arrow on an Internet message board. Jesus Christ. I accidentally hit down when trying to hit up all the time. Get over it you frickin pansies.

Ftr I did not down vote

What the hell, this is so sad. The original story was so weird and left a bad taste in my mouth. After seeing Hurley cry out on national television, this is a punch to the gut. Damn I feel bad for him.
