Kobe was always first. That's why the Lakers will suck for a long time! Tim Duncan makes 7 million, can still play, is on a title contending team. Kobe wanted his ?????? his llast few years.

Most of the "anti-Kobe" comments I've seen have been in response to the "Is this the greatest end to a historic career?" and "where did it rank for you in all time sporting events/games or individual performances you have ever watched?" type threads.

Is that not a legitimate question?

I think it's a pretty silly question. I don't think Kobe's performance to get his team to 17-65 and dead last in the West should even be in consideration for "greatest end to an historic career." So many athletes ended their careers with championships that it's ridiculous IMO to consider this one the "best ever."

I think the context of the question was a single game send off. Not "did this person go out on top?"

If the game means almost literally nothing, I don't see how it can even be considered. But that's just me. Some people obviously feel different.

What are some other send off games? Peyton won an SB, but he sucked arse in the actual game.

Jeter's walkoff was in a meaningless game.

Jordan's 6th ring would obviously have been a better send off, but he came back for 2 more years.

Those are the ones of the top of my head. Very few stars in any sport have their end their career on a meaningful game.

It was a set up from the beginning, not sure why anyone would care either way. The amount of points is bogus and so was the defending. If he wants to go out with a big # of points next to his name people should just let it be.

Like an all-star game. Anyone who is actually impressed with a lot of points in the all-star game is a moron or blind fan boy.

Okay that's two. Gonna need a lot more than that if we're gonna say this wasn't that great of a send off.

People who watched zero minutes of the game sound so fricking clueless. Just completely describing the exact opposite of what happened...

And while it obviously wasn't an efficient 60, it wasn't just the most inefficient night ever like it seems to be insinuated here and there.

not bad at all, 1.2 PPS is better than a lot of SGs average

List of athletes that retired as champions.

Some good ones were suggested in the other thread.

John Wooden
David Robinson
John Elway
Pete Sampras

ETA: Kobe's 60 points in an almost literally meaningless game when the offensive strategy was "let Kobe shoot, it's his last game" shouldn't be anywhere near the top. But that's just me. Some people think that it was the greatest send off game ever.

Was my description exact opposite of reality?

I didn't watch a second of the game, was just assuming.
I'm spot on about the all-star game though.

Like anybody was going to seriously try and guard King Kobe during his inauguration. Was basically a shootaround.
