I remember reading Sea Biscuit and was struck by one fact in the book. It seems in the early twentieth century horse racing was the most popular spectator sport in America drawing more people than baseball even.

I went to the Fairgrounds this year for the first time in 30 years and throughly enjoyed it.

There is something cool about watching those big horses and reading all the stats and studying the odds and stuff.

Well it seems some in the horse industry want to bring more attention to the sport and have organized the richest horse race in US history--the Pegasus World Cup at Gulfstream Park in South Florida.

Entry fee for the horses is $1 million. You got to have some real confidence in your horse to put up a million bucks to get him in a race.

NBC is going to carry it nationally. 3:30 CST.

Has anybody been keeping up with this?

Horse racing is awesome. I really think they need to do some big match races to try and generate some buzz.

Hoping the shorter race helps Chrome win his last race. Victor needs to ride him like it is his last race and not look back 18 times during the race.

One. Of the easier big races you'll ever find to handicap. Chrome and arrogate are the two best dirt horses on earth by a wide margin. And you can't give me one logical of reason to wager chrome over arrogate. Better post, more. Tactical, coming off a classic win, and you'all probably get a better pride cause. Do you think it is simply ego that causes people to pay the $1 million entry fee given Chrome and Arrogate seem to so superior?

One horse that is intriguing to me is Pray for Relief. A HUGE long shot but has a very good jockey, Florent and according to the Brisket ratings for "speed at the distance"is the third highest in that rating. At 60-1 it may be worth a Show bet.

they are going to soup that track up

they have always doen that for big days and breeders cup days. they make SA field guys look like geniuses.

Better watch the races earlier, it will give you an exact look at what the big race will end up.

People care about 3 races, and they only care about the 3rd if the same horse wins the first 2.

Well the Pegasus certainly doesn't have the audience of a Triple Crown but I have seen articles about the race in the WSJ and Forbes so it is getting attention outside the horse world.

The purse is really big. NBC national coverage will help some. I didn't see much promotion of the race by NBC however.

You think this Pegasus experiment is horse racing making a comeback?

Fwiw, not worth betting the top 2, though id rather chrome win.

Go shaman ghost

Also, not a million dollar entry fee. People bought starting spots last year for a million then most had to work out leases or deals to fill their spots.

I missed the race.

I don't do a ton of international horse following, but I do some. I was sad to see steeplechase horse many clouds died today.
