You prefer teams to hire coaches that are selling out their daughters for football players. Say what you want about texas but that would absolutely never fly there in a million years.

Nope. 1989 was Ware’s Heisman year. Ware played the first half of this game. Klingler played in the 2nd half.

The Colorado vs Mizzou 5th down game will never be equaled as the most egregiously officiated game in CFB….that 5th down call in Colorado’s favor eventually resulted in a national title…..undeservedly.

Moar over rated controversy of all time. Was it a screw up, yes.

But if the refs had appropriately kept up with the downs Colorado would not have spiked the ball on what was actually 4th down. They had enough time to get a fourth down play off if they moved quickly enough.

I would agree more with the “worst of all time” thoughts of Colorado actually ran a play on what should have been fourth down, got stopped, but then scored on the 5th down. But they didn’t, they spiked the ball. Like I said, if the downs were correct they had time to rush a 4th down play.

Part of that is true. Texas, Tech, and Houston were already on probation at that time IIRC. A&M heading that way.

Were the Aggies being ‘discrete’ buying the Trans A&M for Dickerson?

In a way, yes. At least Dickerson's grandmother's name was on the car. She was later given money by boosters.

With SMU, the HC was directing his staff to directly pay recruits and set up booster payments. Meyer left and first probation came and new coach Collins picked up exactly where Meyer left off knowingly doing this. The second probation came bowl bans and only 15 scholarships and they still continued. The school board was still "phasing out" payments. The school was knowingly and actively involved with this.

No doubt SMU was cheating. But, all the other schools were at the time as well. Texas and Texas A&M were offering the same players SMU was and trying to lure them using same tactics Even TCU and Rice were paying players. From the ESPn article a few years ago on demise of SWC:

quote:

John Jenkins, Houston offensive coordinator 1987-89, head coach 1990-92: [In the 1980s, SMU] started lining up and beating the likes of Texas and certainly A&M. And that's when some problems started occurring ... the bitterness of rivalries, the intense competition of recruiting. [SMU coach] Ron [Meyer] went on probation, but so did everybody else at the same time. I mean, everybody, other than Rice, got put on probation for cheating with some sort of restrictions put on 'em.

do people actually belive this

The main reason the Pac 10 didn't become the Pac 16 is because mean ole Texas wouldn't agree to equal revenue sharing and was starting up that evil Longhorn Network.

Clicking on thread expecting Colorado's 5th down against Mizzou.

Missouri was screwed out of beating two co-national champions, 1990 Colorado and 1997 Nebraska.

CJK5H. NEVER FORGET people!! It’s all allegedly until you are a family or friend of one of these poor girls. Sex workers are people too and to let that POS go around slaughtering 5 (that we know of) is a stain on all of us.

Intentional kick to keep ball alive is illegal. Its like, the rules didn't apply if Missouri was going to upset #1 teams.

SMU was the “U” before the U and should’ve won a natty or two with all the talent they had in the early 80s.
By the time they got the death penalty they were actually fading a bit and getting outbid by OU and aggie.

But it was a fun ride especially with the Pony Express. McIlheney had a lot of talent around him obviously but was a perfectionist running the option.

We have a winner. Imagine if LA Tech started beating LSU or Troy started beating up on Alabama. The NCAA would be crawling all over Ruston/Troy with penalties soon to follow.

Had Ron Meyer stayed at SMU to at least 1984 they likely would have won one natty maybe two. That's what set off alarm bells with him leaving after 1981 season the 1982 team was absolutely loaded with almost everyone coming back.

Nowadays, when the score gets to , you know, 70-7, I think the coach’s agree to go to a running clock

Seems like that should have happened there .
