I loved the Sonics. GP and Kemp was great. Throw in Detlef, Nate, Gill, Pierce....the mid 90's Sonics were bad arse.

Seattle has a population the same as OKC but OKC is not nearly as affluent

the population is not close to the same. Unless you're talking about the city proper, which is a silly comparison

And when pop dies, they'll go back to being an afterthought.

For markets like SA and OKC, it takes a tremendous amount of luck to win titles (like having a transcendent coach/GM or the greatest player of all time born 30 min away feeling like he owes your shite town something)... The players hold all the power, and they're gonna go where exposure and a chance to win are highest.

After Westbrook leaves there's nothing to build on unless they can get lotto picks and sing players to long-term deals.

San Antonio is a better city than OKC though I do agree they got lucky with Popovich and Duncan and Robinson liking the city. But I would place more money on San Antonio having long-term success over OKC.

When Pop retires it will be interesting to see what happens to SA.

But the Sonics leaving was a tragedy. As bad any franchise move in recent history.

What makes Oklahoma City any worse than places like Memphis and New Orleans?

They have a knockoff version of the Riverwalk and a Native American museum.

Yea I see travel agents boasting constantly about each of those attractions and the amount of people knocking down their doors to go to OKC for them.

Took out team now enjoy sucking until some other Oklahoma product becomes a big NBA player. Nobody wants to play there!

Kind of like how the fans of Seattle didn't even want to watch the team.

"Nobody wants to play there!" That's what the players said about Key Arena

STL would make sense but they get paid the same for not having a team, so why bother?

Oh and a lot of the moves that happen are all about extorting state and local governments and sometimes punishing them just to send a message to others. It's pathetic, really.

Attendance was just fine until the last year after it was already announced that they were leaving

OP getting downvoted is predictable but the OP is right.

OKC isn't good for anything, let alone an NBA team. LOUD CITY will fade into Bolivia, to quote Mike Tyson, soon enough.

You're either an idiot or a troll.

People travel to Memphis and New Orleans.

Memphis has an actual basketball tradition and both places certainly fit demographically.
